What's the difference between a viola and a trampoline?

You're not allowed to jump on a trampoline in golf shoes.....

I had a Great Aunt named Viola. Sweet lady. Always laughing, had a huge St Bernard dog as a pet that she took everywhere.

While we were cleaning out an old building that we had purchased we came across this old American flag. It only has 48 stars. We found it interesting. We have it at home now but honestly I have no idea what we would ever do with it. It has a few holes in it. I had thought about having it framed to protect it. It would be a big expensive and we have no place to display it. Maybe I save it for a yard sale that I'm planning for the spring.

It's post-1912 (admission of Arizona), to 1959 (admissions of Alaska and Hawaii), so it's a display piece only (such as in a period movie or TV show). If you do display it, the starfield is on the left (when horizontal or vertical):

Yeah my grandma had a flag like that, in her last years I think she hung it outside on memorial day... Until mom swapped it with the other flag, not sure where it went after she died.

If no one else wants it maybe a VFW or American Legion Post would take it for display. I would tell them if you don't want the flag destroyed because in this area the American Legion is a drop off for old flag disposal.

That's really neat Fannie. A little piece of history. The funny thing with 48 star flags is that they don't look all that different than 50 star flags, so almost no one realizes what they are.
We had one hanging in the Library at my elementary school. It was there my entire youth, right up until the day they tore it down to make way for the new building. Right before they began demolition they had a farewell open house and the principal, who was a family friend of ours, told the story of how the librarian told him the flag was a 48 star, not a 50 star. He didn't believe her (of course ) so he counted them himself and sure enough, 48 stars.
It is now framed and hangs in the library of the new school. I still don't think most people realize it's a 48 star flag.

You'd think the people framing it for the new school would've labeled it as a 48-star flag.

In my high school (which has since been replaced, itself) there was a small flag (maybe a foot long), and with it was a label that stated it had flown on Gemini 11 with astronaut Richard Gordon. He had graduated from the 'old' North Kitsap High when it had been located in downtown Poulsbo, in 1947.

I think there is a small brass plaque.

That is incredible Andrew! I hope the flag is still around and prominently displayed.
