It looks like Mt. St Helrns before the eruption.

Since there are not many mountains in Florida I would guess Mt St Helens.
I have no idea where Mt St Helrns is!:biglaugh:

It's not Mt. St. Helens. I live here in Western Washington and was here when she blew back on May 18th, 1980. That morning's a story in and of itself.
Unless I miss my guess, it looks like Mt. Shasta, and the line is the Southern Pacific main in Northern California. And yes, someone either hiked to that point or, if there was a road next to the track, just pulled up and got out to snap that photo. We railfans sometimes go to extremes to get cool and unusual pics.

Dude, can you believe CatModelT doesn't know where Mt. St. Helens is? Hell, I've never been to Florida, but I know where Walt Disney World is located, even if I don't know what town it's next to!

I know Mt St Helens is in Washington! To me the photo looked like it.
I also miss trains. In Illinois we lived two short blocks from a line that had a small switch yard. As kids we would listen to the crews switch cars into short trains and head off to the larger RR yard 10 miles south. These were real smoke belching black locomotives.
It wasn't till last summer on four wheelers I actually found out where that RR line crossed the Mackinaw River. Son-in-law and his dad own land right next to the old line and now missing river bridge.
By the way Disney World is close to Kissimmee, Florida even though they say it's Orlando.
Not sure how true it is but a friend showed me a deed to several acres he bought in a swamp that is now the castle and entrance lake. Something about not paying taxes it was repossed. I do remember deals where you could get swamp land that was to be drained for like $10 down and $10 a month. A lot of it is still swamp land.

I'm glad I didn't go with my first guess, then.
    Mt. Dora.
(I don't get out of Florida much these days)

Hey we had friends there and been to the old wooden boat races. Nice flea markets. But we must have missed the mountain! Besides Disneys Magic Mountain somewhere down there is a mountain where people say they are coasting up hill. An optical disallusionment!
The highest point in Florida is north of Tallahassee.

There are two district peaks. Rainier does not have that.
Slightly different angle but now I'm 99.9% sure it is Shasta

I agree. it's Mt Shasta. I can see the little wings sticking out at the rear.
Love the old train in the postcard.

I actually don't know for certain.

Growing up in Washington (and spending a ton of time camping) I have seen my share of snow covered peaks. When I saw this photo I immediately loved it because of the Mountain and the Railroad with the train hauling New GM iron.

Well, as someone pointed out it has two distinct peaks with a glacier in the middle.

It's not Mt. Hood in Oregon:

I do not think it is Mt. Rainer:

This is how St. Helens looked at that time:

Now, Mt. Adams, which is right out my back door has a distinct look depending on which side you view it from:

Here, from the other side it looks similar to the photo posted by Yeller:

But, still not exactly the same...

I did a Google search for Mt. Adams Railroad. It turns out there isn't any rail line close enough to the mountain (might have to do with the fact it is on the Yakima Indian reservation...) So I think that rules out Mt Adams.

    Mt Shasta:

(This one looks the closest to me)

As much as I searched, I couldn't come up with the original image tagged with the name of the mountain.

Each of these peaks has a unique look, depending on which side they are viewed from.

So, I really don't know. But if I had to guess, I would go with Mt. Shasta in California.
