I'd like to know more about the 69-70 Merc or Meteor wagon that's in the background of a few shots. And I swear there's a Fairmont Durango in the background of a few too......
Never a reason to not have a strong vocabulary Well it was the first thing that came to mind when I saw them all. Thanks to Yeller for posting the pictures.
Sounds like the seller went out to California with a car transporter and bought up a bunch of cars to sell on the East coast. Which, come to think of it, sounds like it might be a good business since rust-free cars are hard to find in the East.
NO! That is not the business! Take a car hauler, fill it with rust buckets, and take them out west! They won’t even be looking for rust because they don’t know what it is! In AZ they will see the perfect rubber on the windows and think it was preserved in climate controlled storage.
Makes sense. No point in driving an empty car transport to AZ. Tell the buyers in AZ that the rust is "patina".
The guy doesn't know what he has. If the car he's referring to is this one, and I assume it is because I don't see any other Olds wagons in his photos, he's an idiot. That's not a "Cutlass" wagon, it's a Vista Cruiser. He's selling himself short by not noting this. Vista Cruisers are much more highly sought-after than flat-top Cutlass wagons.
Now we're cooking with gas. haul rust buckets south and sell them on the patina. that's clever. There is an old political strategy that says when you can't tell the truth, tell two lies and let people argue about which one is right. I think this fits that model. Don't tell them it is from the north. Call the rust patina. they will be confused. Boom. We'll be rich.
Good eyes. As I understand it, they made only about 200 Durangos -- with a very few made from Mercury Zephyrs. This one appears to have been made from a Fairmont Futura. Of course, it might be a homemade job. And they didn't make that many more of the Merc wagon. I assume it's a Merc. That would be rare enough anywhere. A Meteor in WV would be ultra-rare.
I never realized the Durangos were that rare. I've seen a few floating around Carlisle over the years. I guess the peeps who own them know what they have.....and their survival rate reflects that.
