I already have front disc (Corvette) brakes and since I intend to use the Parkwood to tow my 62 Vette to shows, I would love to have the rear disc brakes. I have been researching the width of the differential and I think the wagons have the same rear end as the cars. If that's true then its 60" wide. That being said, the 67-69 Camaro is the same width. I appears some of the 68 and 69 Camaros had disc brakes front and rear. I'll start searching for one of those. I attached a shot of the Vette...enjoy
Hey! Don't point at me...Your profile picture is quite similar...your eye candy just wasn't as tired as mine...she had to lay down for a short rest. ;-)
I did some research on the swap and concluded that the 68/69 Camaro rear end is the best choice. Several of these had disc brakes. I'll be on the lookout for one of those. Gonna have to weld on some mounts. Good news is, I'm in no hurry so I can just put out a few feelers and maybe one will pop up. I still have interior and paint to do. Then I'll move to the engine/tranny/rear end swap.
From drum to drum the Nova and Camaro rears are 60" I'm guessing the rear on your Vette hood is around 36"
I'm not saying it's impossible, but I think the chances of you finding a 68/69 Camaro 12 bolt rear end with factory disc brakes for less than a custom aftermarket 9" rear end is pretty remote. I am sure there are aftermarket disc brake conversions for the Camaro rear end so I wouldn't kick a 12 bolt rear end to the curb if it had drum brakes.
LOL factory 12 with disc? wouldn't even want to comprehend what that will cost! Lincoln Versei<<<<< spelling) Had a 9" with disc. Not sure on width also not cheap but I bet cheaper than a #s matching needle in a haystack.
Even without the disc brakes a 67-69 12 bolt rear is gonna cost you at least 1 lung if not 2. The 9" can be drilled to any bolt pattern so any wheels will fit. I had mine narrowed 1" so my tires fit easier. Even a 12 bolt from any gm will cost more for parts then the 9" parts. Using the gm calipers can. Cause a problem as the Seville / fire bird calipers cause some bleeding issues and they were never known to be reliable. I have rebuilt 3 tears for my wagon and wish I did the 9" the first time. Plus the Camaro rear may not have the weight rating for the trailer
This is true. Most GM guys go crazy whenever 12 bolt is mentioned and I haven't heard "cheap" and "12 bolt" used in the same sentence in a while. The 8.5" 10 bolt would be enough for what you need. Even the Ford 8.8" would work fine.
Probably, because there was a time when 12 bolt rear-ends or "pigs" as we used to call the innards, weren't an object of monetary speculation.
You can put in any rear you want , with enough time and money you could put in a corvette rear but the 9" is available all setup even in stock at SummitRacing or quick time racing I think plus it will easily support the weight of the trailer. Bearings, axles etc are easily available
Geez...Y'all are making my head swim. I'm just trying to get a posi-trac in the wagon. I won't be racing...maybe a few Red Light Bandit starts. I'm not necessarily trying to do it for the least amount of money, but I don't need a high end/high priced unit. I wanna keep my Rally Wheels. I'm gonna look for a 1960 Chevy with posi trac in a junk yard, and buy the whole unit. It may not hold up on the race track, but it'll work for what I'm gonna do.
If you want to stick with the stock rear end I have the one out of my car it has an auburn post unit moser axles and I have the Seville/firebird rear disc brakes on it
