Thank you to all for thoses encouragements. I'm going to try to give a response to everyone,^but may be sometimes i will forgot anyone, so please don't be unsatisfied with it, just remember me your question! For Mike, reasonable meant Financialy for me... even if Panhard built only 2998 wagons, the vallue is still very low. Actually the restauration is almost ended i'm going to start the engine this week! and I paid approximatly 3 times the saling value of it... Passion, passion... Thank you to CatModel for translation of the "machin sous les portes" "the thing under the doors" named rocker panel! After cutting the rocker panels, the side of the body was really in a bad condition. Panhard are integral body construction it means that when so rusty it might be dangerous even if panhard built solid bodys. Photo of the upside down rocker panels reapaired with pop rivet! The frame After that we decide to send the car to the sanding cabin During the first sanding operation Well that's all for this moment because i have to go to work on the car!! Bye Jérôme
Well! the continuation after the passage in the new year! Here are pictures of the car after sanding operation the frame the floors the rear whell housings the doors and the engine subframe... I never saw that in my life, even that parts was rusted! Now the question was: to dump or not to dump? Bye! Jérôme
Most of it's easy to get at Easy shapes or flat(simple no see patches) and covered up after fixxed .can get right at it with a mig welder to weld in the unibody patches. A bit of work but not that hard.
It looks like they used a very thin gauge of metal on that car, and then did sweet nothing about any rust proofing at all! Great to see you taking such an interest in the old girl, Jerome. If you can swing it financially, keep going. When you are done, you will have something really special in the driveway. She's going to be great! Keep up with the pictures, too. Very interesting to see the differences between the European unibody and the American. Interesting, too, to see the differences between the Panhard and the way the Swedish put Volvos together.
Hi there! I'm learning a lot of technical words thes days, thanks to you! After the Discouragement, I decide with the body worker to save that car even if we had to work a lot on it. We started to dismantle the sheet steel added to the original rusted one After this job we started to reinforced the structure with new frame side-rails. First we had to cut the old one and replace them Well that's all for the moment! Bye
Think of this as practice for the sedan! And man, he does good work! That car is being done right! It will be beautiful when you are done, and it will LAST, too. I really can't wait to see the final product. Every time you post pictures it looks better than the time before.
Here is me again! Well, after the frame side walls we had to change every rusted parts, rear fenders etc. Firstable we wanted to keep the most of the original floors but it was not possible becaus everything was too bad. We dececide too rebuilt floor panel as original (no spare parts for this wagon). somewhere in the rear The sheet steel before forming and in place Last picture is not really clear because the only sheet steel we didn't change was the trunk floor Well, Have a good day! it's almost time for me to go to bed... Jérôme
Well, la suite! the new rocker panels... new fender side inner panels New rear fenders Cutting every doors bottom Rear door doesn't fit with fender (original) Bye Jérôme
I as well am impressed with the rapid work being done and from the pictures, done very well. Keep this up and I'm going to look slower than a turtle on my project.
Hello! OK, the work was not done so fast! It started on 1 st January 2007 and was almost finished at the end of 2007. After this, i was waiting for the bodyworker to paints the car during 3 years... After he did the job I had no time anymore too finisd the car! So I restart working on it in october 2012.... While they were working on the body, I was working on the front and rear axles (after sanding and painting) All was changed, bearings, brake shoes, cylinders, leaf spring bolt etc.
Getting all that work done on the body in under a year, and having it ready to paint, is very quick! How far away from road ready is she now? I didn't realize it had been that long since the pictures were taken, but so very interesting to see! Keep going on the old girl! Just think, when the wagon is done, you get to do it all over again on the sedan! Can't wait to see those pictures too!
Not so far anymore! I was working on it yesterday to install reard fender windows, exhaust, finish the setting of doors and fix the mouldings on. Tomorrow I continue that job, installing dash board, windshield, rear door etc. But we were there.... At the second time of sanding the body, we discovered that the roof had also holes on it. Well, cutting, forming, welding etc. I was talking about rear fenders doesn't fit the rear doors, we (unsolder?) them, pull them out and weld them again with "point welding machine" All of the finition were made with Tin and without mastic. See you later! Jérôme
