thats right we took our roadie and crossed into miami and lived to tell our tale. we had annual passes to the miami metro zoo so we took a trip to the zoo. right next door is the florida east coast railroad museum. turns out the museum is a place filled with history. during ww2 it was a naval station for blimps. the location of the museum was what used to be one of the hangers for the air ships before it burned down at the end of ww2 . it was huge big enough for about 6 airships inside at the same time. it was a huge wooden structure so big that it was the worst disaster in the entire country in 1945. anyway they have a few famous rail cars including the actual car that truman was standing on the back displaying the famous newspaper saying dewey had won. also had a california vista cruiser which must have been incredible driving thru the rockies .naval air station richmond was the bases nameduring the war
We didn't have a passport. The closest we ever got to Miami was rt41 and Krome Ave. Thanks for the photos.

not that i am prejudiced but in miami as an english speaking american sometimes i feel like i am in another country outside of the US
You need to know 3 languages in Miami... English, Spanish, and French. I haven't been back in almost 30 years, but I did enjoy visiting my folks when they lived there. My mom knew every street and alley on the Southeast Coast of Florida, and it made going places very enjoyable. They moved there in 1967, and lived there until they passed in 1980. I doubt that I could even find my way from the airport today. I would like to remember it the way that it was......
Miami is tame,. visit the east side of detroit,. you are definitely in another country,. third world country,.. and if you're white,you should be out of sight,. or at least well armed,.
phamtom , i grew up in brooklyn ny and worked in some of the roughest neighborhoods and at the wierdest times. we had murders ,robberies,drug dealings, shootouts ,etc on this was just on the jobsites i worked at so i am used to it. it is just kind of a running joke down here about going to miami. i was in detroit last year for the power tour and it reminded me of parts of brookyn that i worked in. incredible homes in crappy neighborhoods. as i left Belle Isle i was amazed at the homes that were boarded up. it trulymust have been something to see in its heyday
yesterday we followed up by once again heading to miami but this time to go to the everglades. Shark Valley national park ,no sharks but we counted 53 alligators withinafewfeet of our tram or us. Look under the fence yes he is real and that is my daughters hip and arm in the corner of the pic. this is how close we got to real alligators he is about a 7ft gator
Love to go to Miami and back to Detroit again. Last time we went to the Florida Keys and stopped at Belle Glade, near Okeechobee Lake we had difficulty ordering McD's breakfast in a new Wally World. Good thing they had pretty pictures. And the nearer Miami we got it was worse. I have nothing against anyone. But it would be nice to speak English in the USA in public businesses. PS Last time we went to Everglades Nat Park there was a dry spell. Every little puddle was filled with smiling alligators. We walked to a nearby lake when we set up camp. Those creatures swam toward the bank where we stood....... for a short time!
Alligators are way faster than people on take off. He could be having daughter for dinner in seconds. We met gators many places years ago and thought nothing of it. Even public parking lots in Orlando. I'll leave them to Swamp Man and Turtleman.
