Old VW's

I have seen this photo many times and always assumed the red car in tow was a baja bug.
But for some reason, looking at it now, I think it's something different altogether.

The back of the roof doesn't have the right slope to it, the rear quarter window looks too big and the front fenders, although cut away, look wrong. Could it be a Fiat?

 

I have never been a big fan of the Volkswagen Beetle. I can appreciate a nice one, especially of the earlier vintages, but for the most part I am pretty much neutral when it comes down to it.

But, I have to say when I saw this photo I thought "now why would you do that to two perfectly good Beetles?"

 

Looking at it up close, I'm sure it's a FIAT 500

 

The red Baja car is a Fiat, for sure. I thought it might be a Topolino, but no, those are a 2-seat coupe.



This is a 500, I think, and it's pretty close in lines to the one in the picture.

 

And that TransGhia looks like hippie @$$.

 

The Bus in the background looks like it's smiling.

 

Who's smiling now?

 

Ouch. That couldn't have ended well for the driver of the Vee Dub.

 

I don't think he was in it. It looks like the truck felt like bullying as much parking space as allowed

 

Is that the real Angela Merkel sitting on the front seat?

 

I dunno, but I'm concerned about the chauffer's choice of uniform.
