I know all about saving receipts just in case. But we rarely save one for a toaster, a TV or anything. I buy things because they are supposed to be made right and made to last.
Besides if I kept receipts my wife would hide them someplace safe like some of my titles. :slap:

This is horrible. I saw this thread last week but I was too busy with the stomach flu to read it... this stuff is infuriating to me.. just reading this tread ticks me off... this comes not long after April and I were almost (read 2 feet or so) rear ended by a guy who was looking at his phone and didn't stop at a red light that we, for some dumb reason, had stopped at.

    Speaking of Insurance

My son just got his 1985 Chevy truck back on the road. Rebuilt the engine. Basic insurance for six months, no full coverage, just the minimum to get tags, was gonna be $270. Agent called son back and told him he'd had a chargeable accident two years ago. Duh! Got insurance over internet. :(
He was using a friend's Lincoln, maybe 2000 model with anti lock brakes. Those fancy anti lock brakes failed in slow city driving and son hit the rear bumper of a stopped pick up truck. Totalled the Lincoln and bent the truck bumper.
So now he had to pay $470 for six months and it will remain higher for at least five years.
So it's costing him $400 extra a year for that long for one bent truck bumper.
All because anti lock brakes didn't lock!:slap:

ABS is like a diesel-electric or electric locomotive's "dynamic braking:" it doesn't work under a minimum speed. Whether he had ABS or not, he was hitting that bumper and screwing up his driving priveledges.

Just think about it, had he given the guy $200 for a new bumper he'd been way ahead. Or even $400. :slap:

I have no idea exactly what happened. Son said the Lincoln slowed down then just sort of free wheeled. Sounds like working ABS to me! Also could be BS! They were in slow moving stop and go traffic in the city. It was also close to a large college with pretty skimpily clad girls........ Son was 23 at the time. As a mature adult I would have been watching the truck ahead!

I lot my 89 Grand Marquis to faulty ABS. The fellow behind braked, but nothing happened. The Emergency Systems Computer Module in a Dodge Caravan failed. No brakes, no air bags. Oops. Happened to a buddy with a GMC Jimmy, too. The first day he had the CSR, no brakes coming out of his driveway. Turned out there was a GM recall on a defective computer, so it was a well known problem with the GMs at the time. It can, and does, happen.

Sometimes I think cars like my old Model A and Model T were better. Never worried about a leaky master cylinder or bad ABS.

While you're waiting on the CCC report, collect data for your rebuttal. Copies of ads, etc. You should be able to use pretty much any clamshell for comparison purposes, as condition far outweighs make/options in the formation of value on these.

    - Set the value of that red one as your goal. Use it as your #1 comparable.

I have been. Even looked up the engine! a BARE BLOCK 455 poncho like mine 4bolt main ready but only 2 bolt caps $1100! A rebuild able complete engine $1400. Other good running completes are 2500 and up!

There is one that looks a lot like mine did when I got it for sale(derby guy for derby) rust around the rear windows(mine was spotless) and finally have seen some undercar pics. NO WHERE as clean as mine $2900

One kid has a 74 olds looks decent and way better than that Buick for 2500 or so but NO TITLE! also a derby guy.

closest to mine solid wise I would say is that red one! But have seen no undercar pics on it either. I would think a cali car always inside would be nice tho.

Then all that work all over again UUUUUGGGGHHHH! getting to old for that shat!

With the 2 or so new $20,000 to win derby's this summer coming up stripped rollers are going for 2500 for a solid car even with mildly rusted floors. He!! even rusty(all over) ones are 1500 and need SCADS of work!

Yup. I was surprised! I've never seen that kind of 'Adjustment to Settle' before. Works in your favor that they couldn't find a single vehicle for sale to compare it to - their valuation was based only on 3 dealer quotes.

Good!. Now go get that new wagon!
