Hello everyone my name is bryan. I brought home a 1965 safari wagon last week and for some reason my wife hates it but ive always liked them.. I spend most of my time working in my shop on toys with my 2 boys. we just about finished up our 54 ford pickup and the wagon is next. not planning on doing anything too wild with it just a good driver. im sure i will have many questions and look forward to great info.. I live in Oregon
Welcome and please post pictures. Funny thing, we now have so many members from Australia and New Zealand that I thought at first you were referring to an Aussie Valiant Safari. It wasn't till I read that you live in Oregon that I realized you were referring to a Pontiac Bonneville Safari.
to the forum Do like many of us, retrain your wife or get a new one. And I agree with Jim68. I thought Oregon was "down under."
Another Oregon Pontiac Safari owner? Cool..... I've got a story about lusting after a '66 Bonneville Safari years ago in my youth, that I couldn't afford then. I still can't it seems...... Next best thing for my situation was this '81. Looking forward to seeing some pics of yours. If you're nearby, maybe we can meet up with the other forum wagoneers in the area (there are a few...) sometime for a cruise. Marshall
I live in the Albany area I added pic to gallery ill post a link but not sure of it will work. http://stationwagonforums.com/forums/gallery/showimage.php?i=12541&c=4&userid=9598
I think I had that added to our vows. She had to say "I will love, honor, and obey your decisions to buy and tinker with old cars".
It looks very straight and solid. Looks like a Catalina rather than a Bonneville though. Were the Catalina wagons called Safari's too? I like that wagon alot and remember, at six years old or so, in the mid to late 60's, my best friend's parents had a white 65 Catalina wagon with blue interior to tow their Airstream trailer. The single thing I remember most about it was being impressed by the pretty tinting at the top of the windshield. My parents didn't buy a car with tinted windows till Mom's 64 Falcon was traded in on a new 69 LTD hardtop. As for the wife, maybe she'll like it more once it has only one or two colors on it As in either one solid color or one color top and another color bottom (rather than the two tone front to back combination).
Yes it is a Catalina. I was told it was a safari. It was stored in a barn for the last 10 years the previous owner started to strip it down and then left it. I threw a battery in it and she fired right up no rust anywhere interior is in pretty good shape also. 389 2bl automatic power steering and that's about it.
Maybe the wife will like it better with fender skirts... Except for the fender skirts, this one looks very much like yours probably did before the paint was stripped off the front clip. But I'm guessing a shiney paint job and some flashy wheels will be the solution to making your wife appreciate it more. But in the meantime, she should at least be thankful you didn't bring home this Pontiac wagon (this one is a 64 not a 65).
I think you mean that use to be a '64 Pontiac... Right now you could place it next to the Titanic and noone would notice. Also, welcome to the forum, got a beautiful project there. I love those stacked headlights, my ole' tank ain't much on looks though.
Thinking paint and wheels might do it. She puts wagons in the same class as mini vans. I keep telling her once she starts to drive it she will enjoy it. I got it for her and the kids so when we go to cruises everyone can go. My truck only fits 3 people.
