Thanks fo the info and comments on Ol’Red- After all the work I did to my wife’s mustang I am really enjoying just driving and working on the wagon
I forgot to mention rock auto has the lock ring and square cut O ring gasket for under 5 bucks as well, but ive seen the float and the rebuild kit on ebay for my 68..my gauge didnt work either and upon inspection my sender had fallen apart inside the tank...no sending units are available that i could find for a 68 merc so i used a 72 Torino sender that was available new and only had to shorten it 1 inch at the float and pick up tube...was a simple matter to cut the pick up tube and slide the sock back on, and rebend the float at the "Z" so it was one it shorter..comparing the old one and the new one side by side..there was a guy with an original in the ford box never used but it was corroded and ugly looking and he wanted a huge amount for it on ebay...good luck on yours! if you cant find the exact for yours i think the float and sock are pretty similar from other models...please post more pics of yours as you proceed! Terry
