So as i started to tear it apart i took the valve covers off and it is so gummed up its a horror scene. My dad is pissed cause this engine was like new when he sold it to gpa. It looks as if gpa never changed the oil like he should have every 3k. also the fact that he thinks to keep it under 40 is no good and the thermostat problem i had cause he had the wrong thermostat in there and the engine never heated up. Its a horror scene in there iam just hoping i dont have to bore the engine. I will attach a pic of the head so you guys can see the disgrace. I will have her going though in no time. any questions or comments feel free to ask.

That is a mess Eric. So the engine is down on power, making noises? If not......would running an oil like the Pennzoil which claims to clean up messes like that maybe work in lieu of a rebuild?

No she runs. She does make noises a little knocking on the bottom end. But she runs. I decided to take her apart cause I had to oil pressure at an idle in gear. So I was gunna change oil pump and pick up screen until I saw this now Iam gunna do an whole rebuild instead of just a reseal. I do bot know moto Mike because this is bad.

Yeah, Eric...a Ford with bottom end noise is asking for a rebuild. Hey, the car looks well worth it and it's staying in the family. What more could a guy want?:thumbs2::D

You could just look for another 390 somewhere. Swapmeets, craigslist, wrecking yards etc. You could even buy an older late 70's pickup and pull the motor and sell the rest to someone who just wants the sheetmetal.

Ask around to all the mechanics shops and see if they have one laying around. You might be surprised. The cost of swapping in another motor vs. rebuilding is more cost effective unless you plan to do the rebuilding yourself.

The benefit of finding a late model block is the car runs better on todays gas... :yup:

Yeah, when I had my '62 T-Bird with the spun bearing in the 390, you could definitely tell something was wrong.

At krash kadillak I'm not sure if it's a spun bearing but I'm going to replace the bearings in it anyway
