Hey guys (and gals?) New member here with a Vista Cruiser wagon. New to Oldsmobiles and wagons in general. Lots of questions here, looking forward to finding some answers.
Welcome Toocool! You have come to the right place for some great information and a little humor also! So what kind of vista do you have? I am currently the steward of a 1965 custom vista cruiser. The thing that gets peoples attention around here is pictures, so if you have some to share be sure to post them. Again welcome and enjoy the forums!.... Longroofs Rule!
I have a 1972 Vista Cruiser on the site myself. I have built it and several other Oldsmobile products including my 1970 W30 convertible. I will help you with anything you need. I don't often post so be patient or email me directly, binkleysauto@yahoo.com.
Beautiful! Very reliable engines built correctly. If you really want to enjoy the car on long trips, the best upgrade you can do is install a 200r4 overdrive. Built correctly it is the best choice for GM overdrives. Best gear ratio spread, same size as the turbo 350 so maybe a driveshaft modification and you can cruise all day at 2000 RPM on the interstate. Depends on what rear gear. The best bang for the$!
I know you will get conflicts over the 700r4 being better. Not true! Bad gear spread wrong bell housing so takes an adapter plate etc. If the 200 can handle an 800 HP GNX your car will not be a challenge.
Toocool that's one beautiful looking Longroof! Did the car undergo a restoration? Or is it a exceptional survivor? I came close to buying a 67 when I was in the market. Love those 64,65,66,67 vistas! More pictures PLEASE!....Longroofs Rule!
I may do the 2004r sometime down the road. I plan to drive long distances in this car, later this year we are cruising Route 66 from St Louis all the way to the end then head up the west coast. The car doesn't have a/c yet but it will by the time summer gets here, I am planning to install an under dash unit.
Again, very nice car. I've installed several aftermarket A/C kits. They all work well. One other thing is to install a higher amp alternator when you install the AC, or upgrade stereo etc. Get a one wire version. Easy install then you don't have to worry about regulator and don't burn out the original. Keep ALL your old parts. NAPA carries the alternator usually non chrome, or chrome whatever you like. I consider it a must to upgrade the alternator. Have FUN!
Welcome Toocool to the forum. Our 1955 Chevy wagon has a 305 with a 200R4. Been in there many years and lots of miles. With a high geared Nova rear (same as Camaro) it will cruise just above a fast idle.
Welcome aboard! That is a beautiful looking wagon you have there. Are the photos you posted taken in your shop? Looks like a neat array of vehicles in the background.
