Yup...that's true, KK. I had the light on my 88 and I sold an 81 to a guy that had the dark.

Exactly Krash. This was an inexpensive way for the car-maker to distinguish model years from one another in the buyer's mind. (It could change the appearance of the car quite a bit, just by changing the color/pattern of Di-Noc used). GM did a lot of this throughout the years on its woody wagons, Chrysler and Ford not so much. The CP's always had a medium to dark toned woodgrain Di-Noc, and I'll always be partial to the '88-91 models. Total trivia: the grain pattern on my '90 CP is the same pattern (but different color) as the pattern used on 1981 and 1982 Pontiac Lemans Safaris (horizontal stripes gave a plank look like the older Country Squires), 1983-1989 Pontiac Parisienne Safaris, and the 1993 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Electra Estate Wagons are C-body cars for model year 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983. For model year 1984 there wasn't a LeSabre Estate Wagon, so for that year the Electra Estate Wagon was a B-body car,

The LeSabre Estate Wagon returned for model year 1985, so the Electra Estate Wagon became a C-body car again.
Same story for model years 1986 and 1987.

For some reason the model year 1988 and 1989 LeSabre - and Electra Estate Wagon were both B-bodies.

For model year 1990 there was just one model, simply named the Estate Wagon, based on the old LeSabre shape, so this was a B-body car.

Erik....aren't you mixing in the FWD cars?? It is my understanding that the B Body continued straight through 96 on all REAR WHEEL DRIVE cars. I believe it was the same frame from around 77 or 78 right up through 96.

The Malibu being the concours is strange, mine is a Concours 1D36 according to the numbers, but has Chevelle emblems.

Mine has body rust too. We also have an 72 El Camino in which I figured out that the rear 1/4 panel are the same, at least at the rear wheel back. Also in case you did'nt know it the drivers side rear rust out because of the gas tank being located in the 1/4 panel. Good luck, hopefully your rust issue is not that bad. :yup:

You are going to have redoing the wagon. I like the body style (having a 70 hdtp in stock). It will be fun to watch your restoration process in pictures - you are intending to post pictures as you move through the car aren't you????? Of course you are, what was I thinking????

I like the stance on that wagon! And the rear airfoil on the luggage rack too! What a project that's gonna be! :thumbs2:

    How about some interior shots?
