Need to see what the value is for this Impala Wagon

There is not a single tire manufacturer anywhere that says the useful, safe, life of a tire is more than 6 years of service, no matter the mileage or condition. They heat/cold cycles harden the rubber, and the carcass deteriorates whether you see it or not. Unused, new tires, have a shelf life of 10 years, under ideal conditions. Put tires near any electric motor and forget those times. I figure on 5 years of service from a tire, and I don't care if it only has 100 miles on it! Ma has a 'new spare' in Arthur. It has never been used as a tire. As a temporary jack stand yes, but not turned a single revolution. This tire is the 3rd spare tire Arthur has had. 10 years in the back of the car, and out it comes. Both of the previous tires had the paper label still on the tread. The tire shop thinks I am nuts, but that car is used as a truck at times, and is in some pretty hairy spots. I don't take chances like that.

As an aside on this topic, when Ford was having all that trouble with rolling Explorers, I was talking to one of the service reps of the local dealer. They figured out the problem. They had a 10 year old Explorer come in under the recall. It still had the factory tires on, with 130,000 miles on them. The tread and sidewalls looked great. When the tires came off the rims, the insides of the carcasses were starting to shred. It was but a matter of time until the carcass failed and the tread would have wrapped around the axle tube, cause it to flip.

 

I got a 75 impala wagon form a lady once named ARTHUR! had a SMOKE BLOWIN 307 SBC in it! Arthur KICKED AZZ in the demo derby! Put his name across the front!
