Each summer there is a vintage camping trailer rally in Roslyn WA, not far from here that I have wanted to attend for some time now. Each time something has come up and I haven't been able to make it. Well, this year I put it on the callender and made sure there was nothing else competing for the time slot. A half a dozen years or so ago my brother's and I Purchased our Grandparent's old 1969 Aristocrat Lo-Liner as a camping/hunting rig. It's in very good original condition and we have enjoyed it very much. My plan, beginning this spring was to take it and the F-100 to the rally. I had the brakes done on the truck a few weeks ago, se we were all set to go. My oldest son and I made the trek to Roslyn after I got off of work on Friday. First photo is in front of our house, all loaded up and ready to go. At the Rally: I also had the pleasure of meeting a forum member! Barry, AKA Safari 57 was there with his wife and their beautiful 1960 Airstream We had a wonderful time. My son loved showing off the trailer, the truck and then showing visitors the photo album I brought that had photos of my grandparents using the same truck and trailer for camping adventures of their own.
Awesome job on the pics :2_thumbs_up_-_anima and your track/caravan (sorry its a Aussie thing) look fantastic thanks for sharing its been a while
Those are some great photos and nice to see things stay in the family. That truck and RV make a perfect pair. Also happy to see Safari is out camping and having a good time.
WooHoo! Love pics like these! And good to see Barry again!. We went up a few miles to Sweet Home, Oregon to see him and his wife at another vintage trailer meet a few years ago.......
Perfectly. Had the brakes Done a couple of weeks ago. The fellow who did the job said the brakes that were on the truck may have been the originals. He redid the wheel cylinders as well. Stops on a dime now. The truck is set up for trailer brakes, but the trailer does not have any.
Most small older RV's didn't have trailer brakes. Not sure how much trouble they are to add but as long as you remember what's back there and are careful it's fine. That truck and camper sure make a nice team.
Well, I haven't posted anything about the F-100 in a while. I've done a few things, so I thought I'd share them. You probly remember the bed rail rust: Well, I was getting tired of looking at it, even with the inhibitor doing it's job. I waned to cover it up. I figured the easiest route to take was to get some bedrail caps. It's a shame too, since the majority of the paint is in such nice condition. But, I couldn't really think of any other way to accomplish what I wanted within my limited budget. So I started shopping for bedrail caps. This turned out to be an adventure! I wanted smooth, non-diamond plate caps. That made things difficult. Not many options out there. I finally found a company that sells them for this vintage truck (67-72), but only for the short bed. My truck is a long bed. I could find the next gen (73-79) smooth bedrail caps that fit a long bed, so ultimately that is what I ended up ordering. I figured they had to be close. They were, but not close enough. I had to customize them a little. Who knew the top of the bed on a 73-79 was narrower than on a 67-72?
I set up a jig with some scrap lumber, some iron and almost every clamp I own and set to bending the pieces and then test fitting them. I think I repeated this process a dozen or so times. I got them to where I was satisfied with the fitment. They came with 3M adhesive tape already installed, so all I had to do was remove the strip and clamp them on.
