I appreciate the information and will try to get some photos of my 1974 Chevrolet Caprice Estate on the site. George.
I have been off the site for awhile because........ well you know, growing old and all........ and forgetting stuff. I really appreciate all the decent comments on here and thanks. I have dragged my butt on posting photos of my 74 Chev Caprice Estate wagon on here but i will try again. Thanks again for all the positive comments. Cheers. George
To the folks that wanted to see photos of my 1957 Pontiac Pathfinder Deluxe sedan, here they are. My dad Anthony (1927-1993) owned the same such car from 1959 to 1970 and that car always left a real lasting impression on me as a kid and i suppose that is why i love the car so much. Cheers. George
Oh screech!!!!!!!!!!!!! That car is rare and beautiful! I have never seen one with the 6 cylinder. Everyone notice the power steering pump on the back of the generator, was that a one year thing? I know American Bel Airs had it also.
That reservoir under the hood with the round red top, oil filter? Was that an optional thing in '57? Wipers look to be electric, was that optional with vacuum standard?
MotoMike, my 57 Pontiac is a Canadian Pontiac and they were based on Chevrolet. They were built in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada and shared most of the Chevrolet hardware, including drive train, chassis, front and rear suspension and some body sheet metal. The electric wipers were an option because vacuum was standard. The power steering was the same as Chevrolet for 1957, just behind the generator. The 261 in line six cylinder motor was the standard issue motor on Canadian Pontiac's from 1955 to 1962. The optional motor was a Chev 283 V-8 in 1957. The 261 in line six was based on the Chevrolet truck motor but our Canadian 261 motors had some differences from U.S. 261 Chev truck engines. The main difference was that our 261's had hydralic lifters and the U.S. 261's did not. The oil filter is a by pass system and was a dealer option in 1957. Thanks for the interest in my 57 Pontiac. Cheers. George
