Hey, that gold Buick LeSabre sport coupe wouldn't have had buckets and a console in it I suppose? As far as I know, that and the '77-'78 Riviera were the only B-body cars of that period that had buckets / console available. Good bolt-ins for the box wagon guys, if you can find them.

Great pics, thanks for posting them! The first page pics (minus car stacking) sure remind me of my chilhood, walking what seemed like endless pre 50's cars and trucks in Norther Manitoba.

That first yard looks like a great place to go parts hunting for vintage iron. It reminds me of Leon's Auto Parts near Culpepper, Virginia. But unlike your photos, Leon's is pretty well overgrown with weeds, vines, poison ivy, thistles and more.

Sure wish that I knew that you were headed to that yard. I need a pair of exhaust manifolds for my 1969 Cadillac. Great pictures... I know that if I were to visit that yard, I would need a sleeping bag, because I couldn't leave until I saw it all. Were there any ambulances or hearses in the yard? Thanks Junk..

Don't know about that yard in Texas, but if you're ever driving through Virginia and stop at Leon's Auto Parts near Culpepper, I do remember seeing a few ambulances there. Its been years since I've been there, but I remember noticing the Cadillac ambulances because we looked inside and noticed factory radio delete plates on the dashes. We figured those were pretty rare radio delete plates. The only one I remember specifically was a 59 Cadillac ambulance like the one in Ghost Busters (except it was red).

Plenty of wrecks...none that were interesting enough to get pics of.

No it was a bench seat, column shift. Buckets actually were more common that you' think. In the late 70's and early 80's buckets and a floor shift were included in the Delta 88 Holiday 88 Coupe, starting in 78 I think. It used a Cutlass console, shifter, and seats.

Buckets were also an option on 78-81 Bonneville coupes. Like Olds, Pontiac raided it's G-body Grand Prix for the seats and console.

There is a Holiday 88 sitting in John's Salvage right now with red buckets and console.

He's pretty proud of them. I paid $75 for that one I got...but he had it, and it was worth that to me.

Beautiful photos, Mike. The yard in Sequin TX is definately on my 'to-do' list for next year when visiting TX; I don't need parts just wandering around there will be my goal. :thumbs2:

Thank you for posting such awesome pictures and SO MANY of them!

I had worked with a guy in New Orleans for my work. He had come from west Texas with his '98 Chevy 1500 extended cab. Now here I am, a true northerner, cars at about a year and half start rusting (sometimes even sooner). I was going nuts how I could not find one spot of rust on this truck. He goes on to tell me all cars and trucks in west Texas are pretty much like his. After my dad died in 1996, we had a service held in south Texas (where he is from), I had seen my aunt and uncle in Dallas. I did some junk yard picking while I was there for my '78 Thunderbird. It was like I was in heaven...............

How long did it take you to walk around there (the 1st yard) it looked huge!

I try to get down there at least once a year. Winter is best...considering winter here is in the 60's-70's. You can SEE all the cars in the winter, before the vines and bushes take over. Don't walk out there in July or August unless it's really early in the morning...the yard is on a slope and walking back up it in 100-degree heat is ZERO FUN. Heatstroke City!

I really love John's, it's just so neat to stroll through all that history. I've been going for 14 years now, but I always find something new. It makes me sad to think in 20-30 years there won't be stuff like that. I can't forsee my kids and their kids maveling at 20-30 year old Cobalts and Fusions in a yard like that. It's just not the same thing, won't happen.

There are so many neat cars to look at. Fins and side spears and emblems and trim that you don't even see in car shows. There is just so much to take in.

The Hudson Hornet in there is my favorite. It's rough, but mostly complete, and I'd love to have it in my garage to just stare at it...all long and low and swpt back...so neat. It's been there for years too.

Really glad you all liked the pics. There are some other yards like that in this state, including a REALLY good one in north Texas up near Oklahoma, but John's is my favorite.

Whenever I see old cars at Pick-N-Pull I SO wish they'd ended up at Johns. Pick-N-Pull crushes every two months. John has never crushed anything, and what ends up in there, stays there.

I know just what you mean. I was born in Texas but moved all over the country as a kid with my Dad's job. I went through high school in New Jersey in the late 80's, early 90's, and LOVED coming down to Texas to visit family and go yarding.

I had a rusty 79 Pontiac Bonneville Brougham in high school up there in NJ, but it had PERFECT plasti-chrome headlight trim, tail lights, license plate surround, grill and hood spear with emblem that I yanked off a junker in Waco Texas on one of my visits. Ha!

Knock on wood, but I've never seen a snake out there. I do see some spiders, but nothing big and scary.

John's is a big place. We were there about two hours Saturday. They close at 1pm on Saturday, or there would have been more pics. It's a great place, people are nice, and they all love cars.
