Please read this ! I've been thinking about this cease and desist order to Jaxed from CL. I don't KNOW this, but, it's my feeling that Jaxed was started and is run by a guy or two in there home or office. My point is, that I don't think they have the money to flip off CL and, if necessary, go to court. Hear me out and correct me if I am wrong...links are taken from one site and transferred to another all the time. I can, for example, take a CL link of a car and post it here for your perusal. I can even open it and pre-post pix and copy like is done here all the time. So, tell me, why is it not legal to post a BUNCH of links all in one place? I am no puter wiz and no legal beagle, but, I DO know that an order to cease and desist is a weak warning unless specific laws that have, POSSIBLY, been broken are prominently listed. I did all the marketing/advertising for my brother-in-law's and nephew's car washes. My agency did not usually deal in retail clientele but I did it because it's family. I named it and did all the pre-marketing and even all the theme graphics on the buildings and formed a franchise system. The point here is; I named it Mermaid and there was a guy that had a small swimming pool business that was named Mermaid. He sent us a cease and desist and we sent a long and detailed refusal to the court, the court agreed and that was the end of it. The pool guy could have fought further but it would have been super expensive to carry on and probably lose in the end. It is my feeling that CL has no legal basis to stop Jaxed but that Jaxed is not nearly as big and well financed as CL and, therefore, folded without a fight. If I'm right I would like to contact Jaxed and get their permission to start a site to collect money for legal fees to hire the best attorneys to fight CL and to allow Jaxed to continue with their worthy service in the interim. I could be wrong about all this in my thinking but I don't think I am completely wrong. Think about it...if CL were to win, it would preclude the use of ANYONE transferring ANY link across the entire Internet. That would bring out the big guns with huge money to have that decision reversed. If 10,000 people stood up for the cause and only donated 10 bucks each, that would be $100,000 for starters. It is my guess that there are a lot more than 10K people out there that feel as strongly as I do about this order against Jaxed by CL and many of them would donate more than 10 bucks. We are talking about the entire world here not just Peoria. If Jaxed is willing to fight if it had the money then I am willing to go out and get the money for them. CL is just one arm of the eBay conglomerate and they have all that money behind them. BUT...I think that Jaxed is a shoo in win. It MAY be that CL would fold before wasting money in court proceedings. Anyway, I am willing to fight for the cause in this instance. I'm willing to fight because I'm way beyond super pissed off that a huge conglomerate may be able to kick the little guy around and put him out of business ONLY because they have deep pockets. These are my thoughts. Right or wrong.
The simple part is they post all matching links. If they would limit search query returns to 99 links, problem solved. It seems 100 at a time is against CL TOS. Then again, aggregating is also against it. Can't win.
I understand what you are saying, occu. But, when you say "can't" to me...that's when I drop it in gear.
Man....Ive tried every search engine I can find and there is NOTHING like old Jaxed. Jaxed showed hundreds of the car of your choice and year WITH pic so you could decide whether or not to click on it. They even had a station wagon category! Punch up SW and the years you want and you got them all from CL, eBay & kijiji....with pix and location. Click on one and it opened to the ad. I'm super surprised that there aren't more complaints about Jaxed's demise here!
It was a nice tool, Mike, but low protesting rates here makes sense since we've almost all got our little Red Flyer wagons.
Yeah, you're probably right, Norm. But, hey...who doesn't like looking! And I have mine, too, but....I'm STILL looking for that specific Suby that I can get to in time! The fact is, everyone should protest. This site was a perfect compilation of many items besides cars. I still don't understand why CL makes you wade through a thousand clicks when they could do what Jaxed did. I will never stop bitching about this order from CL against Jaxed. I refuse to use CL. They make you go through more moves than a high dollar hooker!
Every click is like a Nielson survey to get new adsites that run surveys and then tell companies what users are looking for. The click adds to their cookies in your browser. So if you are checking out cars in one region more than another, at different price points, the advertiser targets you when your ISP number comes up elsewhere. I was on the BBC website, getting political campaign ads for one of the local parties in my Province! Everybody makes a nickel on this squirrel cage, except us.
Would you hazard "almost political"??? That's about as low as I know of. Maybe the guy wasn't paying any VIG to CL? No ticky...
You allude to possibilities. Again, I believe that Jaxed was started by a guy or guys on a small level innocently, but, with money in mind as an end result. I could be 180 degrees wrong in my thinking about this, of course. I have done no research into Jaxed and its birth. As for vig, you have to remember that a large part of CL is owned by eBay. Same goes for kijiji. And eBay owns PayPal. I doubt that the paltry vig that Jaxed could offer would be a sufficient allure. What REALLY burns me is that the FTC seems to no longer have sufficient laws on the books, thanks to hidden agendas in passed Bills, to stop monopolies. OR, they simply turn a blind eye. This country is headed for complete G control and people seem to be unaware or uncaring. I just made a jump from business to the G. Or, did I? Anyway...getting back to the cease and desist order....Jaxed was, presumably, a fly in the eBay plan ointment.
Maybe CL felt their fenderskirts were Hi-Jaxed? Business made the jump to Politics when Europe created companies. We were sucked into making them legitimate Pirates of democracy with ideals of Freedom of Speech (unless you offend a politician - AKA their ideal, lobbyable representative). All our votes do now is rubberstamp they're ongoing Piracy. They even get to write laws that make them untouchable in the courts.:banghead3:
ok , i know this turned into a politics conversation, but im gonna say something regarding the original topic i didnt actually use jaxed to shop, i used it more to dream i would go on and search pacer wagons and imagine what mine will look like one day.......but i guess those days are over now, bcz i havent seen a pacer on my local craigslist in atleast 6 months

What about if you did a search for the vehicle in each of the States (and Countries), without clicking on any results that come up; Then open a new blank page in Notepad, but name it something like "CL SUBY Searches.HTML" and save it in My Documents; Then copy the open CL Link(s) into the open "CL SUBY Searches.HTML" page; Then do the same with KIJIJI, and EBAY master SUBY searches; AND THEN, open this new "CL SUBY Searches.HTML" page and save it to your Favorites. It won't be as fast a Search, but it will save you repeating the same steps every morning, noon and nite. If you've got one on your computer, copy the links that you get into Notepad, separated by one linespace, then open your editor after using Notepad's EDIT/SELECT ALL menu item, and paste them into your blank HTML Editor page, and save that as CL Hi-Jaxed Suby.upyoursCL.html
