Thanks. I rode street bikes for a little while and even road raced a couple times. I got in a bad accident in Dec. 1990 and spent a week in the hospital. I rode for a couple more months but was to leery when riding, so I gave it up.
Dirt is always cool. Like most others I just dont feel safe on the streets but growing up in Southern CA , off road just seems to be in the blood. Have fun, enjoy the cow but stay vertical.!! LOL
OK...as I mentioned earlier I was a street bike guy and never a dirt bike kinda guy. But I do understand the draw. But I am posting again in this thread because it just dawned on me.....that bike has 650cc's!?....that thing has to flat out FLY, freek!! You had better be careful and I'm not kidding. I had street bikes....4 cylinder 750's etc that were FAST in the day. The bike you just bought has to be ridiculously quick with its light weight. AND, think where it will be driven! My buddy has a 125 just like yours and I think THAT is quick enough for him at 53 years old driving through the boonies! Yours must be a 4 stroke?? Did they even make a 2 stroke that big?? Kinda doubt it but I'm old school anymore. All I know is...that bike would scare the sh!t out of me on any of the trails my buddy drives on! And I love speed. Be careful, freek....we like you around here.
Fox, yes it's a 650. It's got some serious torque. I had a KX125 when I was 13 and a KX250 when I was 15. I wanted a KX500 but the salesman told my dad he might as well buy me a coffin if I get the 500. Probably good advice. I needed a bigger bike because I'm 6'2 245lbs. I would have been happy with an XR400. I was even looking at some more vintage bikes from the late 70's and early 80's in the 400cc range, but the Kawi popped up for $1000 and I couldn't resist.
I finally got to ride it today. I bought a helmet a few days ago and scored some used gear on Craigslist today. Now that I was protected with a helmet, goggles, boots, knee guards, elbow guards, chest protector, jersey and mx pants, I was ready to roll. I went to Wooly's Offroad park in Lynnville, TN. I hadn't been on a dirt bike since probably '85. At first I was questioning my decision about getting a bike. But after I blew the cobb webs out, I started having a little fun. I only rode for about an hour and a half, but man I'm whipped.
-And that's just the teenaged girl down the street. What about the others! PS Make out your will, buy a good helmet and leathers, kiss your wife and ass goodbye!
Seriously, be careful We've ridden motorcycles since 1958. Rode Blue Ridge and Sky line many times. Tail of Dragon, Full length of Mississippi River, both sides. Only half way each trip. Where we lived was about half way after we got 100 miles to it. We'd go up one side and down the other to around Keokuk, Iowa. Then South another year. Been wanting a Honda or Harley trike since we retired. Cruisers are the way to go. A darned biker sent me to this wagon site! No way my wife and me could sleep in a one-man pup tent now!
