It's AMAZING what you can find on the internet. Here is the interior Dad special-ordered for our silver 78 Safari. It was called the "Valencia Cloth" option. Brings back lots of memories!

Man the drugs in the 70's must have been great! :thumbs2:

I like the maroon interiors. I have one. Just don't like raging red. Also like DARK blue...not light blue.

Man this is SO COOL. Just found this in the picture section. This looks just like our old Safari. Ours was a 78 so I think the grill design was a little changed, but that color, wood, tail lights, wheels, it's a twin! Picture this car with that wild striped interior and that was what we had.

Man I'd love to find another one. Did you see on these they even had woodgrain on the roof racks?? Ha!

I was picturing the car in my mind while you were describing it, 81. I was right....the light and dark wood design goes well with that interior. IMO it makes it more "woody wagon".:yup:
Another thing I like about your story is that, back then, you COULD order what you wanted!
That and the fact that you must be able to type 8000 words a minute!:yikes:

    Great story, Mike.
I would have loved to order my own 'special' wagon back in the 70's. I had a bunch of them configuered (in my head), perusing the brochures.........much like your dad did for real.

Oh my that's beautiful! Not sure I would have ordered that with a silver exterior (Black would have been awsome!). I can just imagine the looks that wagon got....

Also, I just love that Pontiac-specific dash. After '81 I believe, it was gone....

I believe this is the exact wagon I mentioned in a previous post in this thread. This wagon has a red interior, and less than 10k on the odometer. Also, it's probably for sale.
    ----------------------
    UPDATE:
Yup, it's for sale, and no it doesn't have under 10,000 miles. It's got under 2,000 miles! - 1,026 to be exact.

Right on, David. I really like the look of this wagon. I even have a "spare" 400 in stock that needs a quick rebuild but would slide right in and really fix this one. Oh, to have lots and lots of $$$$ on hand and "surprise" the wife with HER new wagon. Oh sure, she'd be PO'd, but isn't marriage all about giving and forgiveness?

Some of those Jap wagons are kinda cool, but you're right. It's hard to beat a big ol' obnoxious oversized tank of an American wagon. Especially the earlier 70s GM and Mopars. If you drove one of those beasts over there, you'd probably scare women and children away!
