I only used this approach once but about 17 years ago I strolled up real smooth to a young lady and looked her right in the eyes and LIED! Now because of this she married me for my money and now I don't think she is going to leave until I get some! :rofl2:

My wife hates when I tell this story and I asked "Why, you don't want people to think your a gold digger?" she says "No because you weren't that smooth!" :biglaugh:

I have also overheard my wife tell her friends " I don't want to controll my husband, I just want him to do what I say!" :slap:

Just goofing off with my tales, except the not wanting to controll me one is true! :biglaugh:

My wife is from Redwood Falls. Wonder if that's close to Frostbite Falls Bullwinkle?

You might have already blown it when you walked around the corner and spotted the wagon.

    Did you say "nice rack"?

I'll post some pics later today.

I met up with her yesterday to have dinner and diagnose her Beetle - she managed to destroy the engine within 20 miles of buying the car:slap:.

I offered to help her learn to fix it herself rather than paying someone else to do it for her (they're very simple as cars go and the local mechanic didn't want to touch it, anyway), and she offered to pay me for the education/work.
Maybe I could put it toward the price of the wagon:idea:

I didn't intend it as a way to pick up a chick (odds were 51-49 on the owner being female, far slimmer on it being a desireable female).
Really, I just wanted to meet someone in town who had a common interest.

She has a wagonfull of kids - the wayback, too. Only three are still at home, though.

By my age, I'd be limiting my options practically to nuns if I made 'no kids' a prerequisite for a relationship with a lady.

She has a few years on me, but we're at least close to the same age.
That's not an issue in my eyes, I haven't dated a younger woman in several years.

She's pleasant to look at. She's no Yvonne De Carlo, but I'd give her a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 in the looks department - looks being only a small part of the whole person.
Add 2 for the wagon and Beetle (good taste), 1 for being a welder (something about a woman who gets dirty and sweaty, and isn't afraid to flex her muscles...:whew:), 2 for personality and compatibility - puts her at a 10.

Subtract 10 for the engagement ring on her finger and she's still a really cool person to hang out with - just what I was after initially. (y)

I deliberately left that part out of my original post, just to make it a bit more interesting.
    That's the approach I've taken.

She and her two sisters bought it together, dreaming of road tripping.
Those plans are pretty much out the window due to kids, jobs, houses, etc.

I've told her I want it, if they want to sell it. I'm betting they will sooner than later.

I doubt she lurks here, she wasn't aware of The Samba, either.
If she does, she'll figure out who I am and probably get a laugh out of this post. :D

    I can.
My life has been consumed by personal projects (school, work, cars, duplex renovations, lording the land...) for the past 13 or 14 years.
I haven't had much time to meet people.

I'm maybe 2 hours from Redwood Falls.
The Minnesota River valley is a really nice area, next year I should take a fall color tour that way.
It would make a long drive back to Minneapolis, but would be worth it.
My VW has room to sleep in the back, or maybe I'll be cruising in the Colony Park by then.

Yvonne DeCarlo? Thats Lilly Munster, Herman's wife. So, if "she's no Yvonne DeCarlo", how do you rate Yvonne DeCarlo on a scale of 1-10?

Maybe you mean Yvonne Craig, who was Batgirl in the 60's Batman TV show.

    A TRUE car guy, square!
I mean, hey, here's a guy ... single for 38 years, meets the girl of his dreams, they have everything in common...he loves VW's, she loves VW's, he loves wagons, she loves wagons, he's a welder, she's a welder, they meet and like each other, they even work for the same company!
Does he make a big move on the girl? NO. He tries to con her out of the cherry Merc wagon! THAT is a TRUE car guy!(y):biglaugh:

uh....don't count on her getting a laugh out of your post about her, square. A 5 for looks just blew the Merc out of reach!:biglaugh:

I tried to snap some pictures of the car, but no luck.
My camera battery is dead, and the charger is packed away somewhere.
My phone camera doesn't like to save pictures, either.

It looks like this, only 60 degrees colder and more red

Dating was off the table even before we met so of course I did.

Even if the Colony Park doesn't pan out, I also have my eye on another Big Woody elsewhere.

I did say she's pleasant to look at and gave her an overall 10...

At least I used an objective scale, without resorting to the "how many beers would it take to make her pretty" index...
It's bad news if you have to take out that scale. It often means she broke the one in the bathroom. :taz:

Nope. I meant Yvonne DeCarlo, who was definitely a 10 - even as Lilly Munster. (y)

Bsquare thanks for the update and interesting information. I just hope you do become friends with the woman and meet others where you live. Life without friends is no fun.
Getting the wagon is just a bonus. By the way we once had a VW squareback and used it to camp with our wall tent many years ago with three little kids. Spent two nites sleeping in it behind a VW dealership in southern Illinois. Did I mention it was one of the biggest new car lemons I owned? .
