In my province, we're paying close to 50 cents in taxes per liter!

I think the politicians figure everybody will be so impressed with their LEGACY projects, that we'll overlook how they robbed the poor to feed the rich.

I hope West Van, Kits and Shaughnessey are impressed.

So far, we're at the bottom of the tax-food chain - midway down the latest report - they're too ashamed to show the 2007.:

I'll take the politically correct route and not call your government liars. Simply mistaken.

In the US the federal tax on gasoline is $0.18. Then almost every state adds a sales tax. In Ca. it's 7.24% per dollar locally, not per gallon. Some as high as 8.5%. Then add the Ca. road tax which is another $0.40. In California there is an average of $0.80 per gallon. If there were no state tax at all gasoline would be about $2.70 to $2.80 per gallon. So with the gasoline in California now at an average of $3.62 per gallon then there's $0.25 of that in sales tax alone.

So, again you've got me started. I'd mind a whole lot less if the taxes were actually used for their intended purpose. Instead they are siphoned off to pay for whatever the legislature can dream up. AAARRRRGGGG!:(

TBird, wait till the Rev gets the new Carbon Tax on his gas. There won't be any mild 'don't net-whine', it'll be an all out Scream!

If there was ever a blackhole for slurping money into politically hot projects, that Carbon Tax thing is it. What doesn't have Carbon emissions? New AC in the Legislature just to cut the CO2 when they debate BS. Lung disease research into the effects of Carbon emissions - keeps doctors writing partisan donations. More palm trees where the Cabinet meets on their favourite beach. Oh, and maybe, emission reduction, somewhere else.

Which oilco is gonna leave money on the table? Just whisper Trudeau's NEP in Alberta, and those Rednecks will pull it off the rear window rack in their pickups! :biglaugh:

What could be done about it is a Class Action suit against the Feds for all the deaths caused by ignoring industrial pollutants, but not for Cash. No, no. Sue them to change the Constitution to force any winning Political Party to win by at least 51% of the eligible vote. Then we'd get serious legislation, instead of regional spin-doctoring. I'd like to throw in that we can vote directly for our PM, but then they figure a way to tweak that one too. :(

In the last 8 Federal by-elections they never got more than 42% of the eligible voters to even vote. First past the post just sucks! :(

I don't know why you Canadians & other countries complain about high taxes, who else is going to pay for all that FREE health care you have! :rofl2:

Paid $3.12 today for regular, that's with a Safeway discount card too.

I'm just waitin for the day we use no gas in our everyday cars so we can tell those towelheads to go pound sand, then it might go down to 10 cents a gallon!

We complain because our Tax-free Lotteries were supposed to pay for Healthcare, and the International Oilcos get to keep their dollars. The rest of us just see the Federal bloodsuckers dig deep into our pockets. And build Legacy projects for their pals and cronies.

How's this one? The Feds handed out 400 million today for more police for the whole country. BUT!!! If they can't recruit the new 4,500 officers within 5 years, the money goes back to the Feds. In this city, they have to get 50 new officers every year into and out of the training programs or they lose it. They haven't been able to score that many applicants in the last 10 years. In others, its worse. But man, they sure love the heroic photo-ops!

I paid $3.14 today for regular for my 73' Grand Ville. It was on 1/4 tank, and it still held $50.00 and never did get filled up, but it was close!
