And a couple more items on Q-jet, T-quad and other carbs with removable idle wells: they will eventually leak, pure and simple. On a Q-jet, lightly tap the metal around the well plugs on the bottom of the main body, then coat with JB Weld and let cure. That will eliminate one source for overrich condition. On the T-quad, the wells are glued on; eventually the glue breaks down. Remove them and scrape off the glue, then JB Weld them on. Remember, a thin little bead is all that's needed. Let it cure. And make sure the phenolic body is not warped. And I have one more trick up my sleeve that is cheaper than rebushing a throttle shaft.

Take a small center punch and light ball peen hammer. Remove the throttle body from the carb, and set the end of the shaft on one side down on a hard surface. Swedge the body under the bottom of the shaft at the 6:00 position, then the 8:00 position, then the 4:00 position, then the 7:00 position, then the 5:00 position. Swap the side, and do the opposite side. Lube each end of the shaft, then test to confirm the shaft moves without dragging and has no slop. If it's too tight, lay the throttle body right-side-up on the hard surface, then take a deep socket and very lightly tap the top of the shaft at each end, then retest. Swedging the body under the shaft takes up enough of the metal to close up the vacuum leak without having to remove the throttle plates and pull the shaft to stuff in bushings.
