I just picked up a 1959 Rambler Custom Cross-Country 4 Door Wagon and was looking for some stuff and found this place. Seems interesting and glad I found it. My other car is a 1970 Maverick.

Neat wagon Diane! Glad you found the forums. We have a lot of fun here, there's a lot of kidding happening and no one takes too much too seriously.

That looks like a decent Ford wagon in the background of one of your pics, is that also yours?

I do like the Ramblers of the 50's. They are so art deco, lots of fun to look at.

I like the chief you have also! Cool car! My second car was a $75.00 Fire Chief with the head that lite up! These cars take me back to when I was a kid. This is going to be one of my daily drivers, I have a 70 Maverick that was gonna be mine.

This is the story of the car, you can skip it if you want. I just restored an 80 Honda with all the Vetter fairings - still polishing the chrome and aluminium because the bike was a mess but rain great! 46 t0 48 miles per gallon in town. I got the Maverick because there are not a lot out there and it's a 70s car and reminds me of then, I had a 70 Mustang fastback. I was looking for a cheap daily driver and getting rid of my Durango. I saw this in a lot, sat for 25 or 30 years in a garage. The Ford is in the lot, I am getting the car tomorrow and bringing it home - driving it. The gas was a powder so cleaned it and it started, but burning oil. Runs strong though!

I got this instead of a normal daily driver I guess LOL I don't know if it will be the Maverick or this one. This one is in pretty good condition and the Maverick was a pretty much rebuild of most every part - sheesh Body work and interior next. They're both 3 on the tree, I like that!

I'm looking for a rebuild kit now, not certain of the engine size. I'll know tomorrow I guess.

    Thanks for the welcome!!!!

Welcome to the Nuthouse we call home! You will find your hazelnut shell waiting for you! You're going to fit right in! Anyone who is debating between a 59 Ramble wagon and a 70 Maverick as a daily driver counts as just crazy enough! I can see why you are debating which. That Rambler looks super nice. Looks like a bit of rust in the front fenders, but otherwise good and solid. It would be great because it is a wagon, for starters. The Maverick, though, has a couple of advantages, too, starting with the brakes. It has the dual circuit master cylinder for a bit of extra safety. Adding front disc brakes to it are a snap, too, for added stopping power under adverse conditions. Being a 3 on the tree, I am betting it is a pretty basic Maverick, and 4 wheel drum brakes are not a lot of fun after a big rain and deep puddles. Been there, done that, and have the grey hairs to prove it!

It's pretty solid and I'm in love with it! The Maverick was basic, 200 ci engine and rotted good! It's going to be back home in about 3 to 4 weeks! Pretty much solid mechanically. 4 drums sounds good to me!!! I used to drive just drums, I'm a tad old LOL I'm doing the Maverick in Grabber blue and stripping it like a Grabber. Interior will be cream and grabber blue and the same with the seats - nice bench seat - I really missed those!

The Rambler was just too cool and original pink - how can you beat that! I'll probably drive between the two of them I guess. After I repaint the Maverick and Rambler, gonna be hard to take it out in winters - we don't get much snow where I am and it doesn't stay on the ground long when we do. So both cars will probably be driven equally.

I didn't start out looking for a Rambler station wagon, the colors inside and out and the body style got me bad. I honestly was looking for something like a Civic or something ahahahahahaha this is better!

Thanks for the welcome, yeah I'm somewhat nutty :taz:
