Welcome to the forums Mike. LOVE your '78 Merc....shes one clean example.

As for the rear air foil or spoiler, that was an option for Colony Park and Country Squires with the rack. However that may be, you can still find one on a donor car and put it on yours. You would have to do some minor drilling. There is a brace in the middle of the air foil to keep it from pulling away from the body.

Here is a picture off my '77 Country Squire. Its sorta hard to see, but there is a chrome brace in the middle.

Hey mrobers, I think you are talking about the roof-rail to side window weatherstrips.

The 73-78 full-size Ford and Mercury sedans and wagons all had frameless door glass with a center pillar, and the window glass rested directly on the weatherstrip just like in a pillarless hardtop.

I believe that the door and windows openings were exactly the same for both the sedans and wagons.
And Ford and Mercury structures were absolutely identical as far as weatherstrips were concerned.

I looked on the Steele site and it does not appear that they carry these WS. I did a quick search, but haven't turned up any yet.

I will keep my eyes peeled for some. (y)

Yes! That's exactly what I mean :) I will try to make some pictures of the weatherstrips and post them this weekend.

Last saturday I picked her up about 100 miles from here and drove her home. And boy does that drive! Supersoft ride...

Now I have to wait for the inspection to take place (august, 20th) before I can take it on the road again.

I see what you mean that the wood stops short of the front. That front piece I think is fiberglass and it may have been replaced or refinished at one time. I'm sure that now that wagons are more popular than ever that you can find the correct matching Dy-noc on the internet. You wouldn't need much.

    Hi
I would sugest that you get it converted to propane (LPG) before you get the car licensed.
This way you do not have to pay extra for geting the LPG set licensed.
I did put in the LPG set myself on the C30 A lot cheaper than having a company to do this for you.
BTW you have just the car that I'm looking for now.

    Are you interested? :)

I've made an appointment for 20. august so I don't have the time to get it converted before.

I'm a bit in a struggle at the moment; it's really a great car and perfectly preserved, but it's very, very large. Difficult to park here and my storage-space for cars is full (have to sell one of the Corvettes). Next to that, we have just found out my wife is pregnant so we do need the cash. I am nog figuring out how to keep the wagon and sell one of the other cars.

I'm trying to sell one of the Vettes :)

The Mercury is from California according to the title, license plates and some stickers!

Okay, went to the RDW for an inspection today with the Colony Park. They put the VIN number on the front chassis, weighed the Mercury and performed an extensive inspection. Damn, they were thorough.

The Mercury didn't pass the inspection but only on 2 stupid things; the battery wasn't strapped down (missing the straps) and the wiperwasher didn't work. Besides that; he passed every technical tests!

I'm going to fix the 2 things they found next sunday and then back to the RDW to show these things are solved. Seems I'm getting her licensed within a week or so :thumbs2:

She's running just great; steering, suspension, throttle, brakes; everything works smoothly. Still trying to find the correct window-weatherstrips and an airfoil. I'm also curious how to mount the cargo-seats (I have them in the trunk) and doesn't the cargospace need some kind of carpeting or something?

Although no succes the first time, still: congratulations! (y)

Those are 2 minor things to solve (when the washer pump isn't working you can always mount an after market one from your local parts store for a few Euros)
Did your wagon still had the sealed beams when inspected?

My Electra will have an inspection next week (I already know that the washer isn't working, but I have a spare original (combined) washer/wiper unit in the trunk) But hopefully can save some time by not changing the head light to EU standards.

I agree; those are just minor things to repair!

I still had the sealed beams installed and they gave a sufficient light image so no problems there.

The CO2 was a bit low but within limits. Only thing he mentioned was the car seems to blow a lot off fuel through the exhaust pipes on both sides :rofl2:

Have you never been to the RDW too? This was my first time and it was a nice experience. A lot of friendly mechanics, all interested in my 'old' American car. They all wanted to know where the heck I was going to park my car in the new neighbourhoods :yahoo:

If you want to know more (about what they check); you can always pm me.
