I totally enjoyed our son and daughter growing up and they were always included in our family car builds. It started maybe with the Hotwheels and the numerous types of riding toys they had. I was fascinated with their sense of imagination and creativity. Our big yard became a mecca for nieces, nephews and friends to come and play. A lot of our best vacations were taken in one of the many types of 37 Chevy cars and trucks we had over the years.
Our son is now a successful engineer for GM in Michigan and our daughter and her husband still live nearby and are raising three of the coolest little guys I could ever have imagined. Like our kids, the grandsons are growing up car lovers. If it has wheels they are definitely interested. When they come over to stay with Pop the big driveway is alive again with the same imagination and creativity their Mom and Uncle had.
Being a Grandpa is being able to be a part of their fun. It started again with the Hotwheels. I built them all John Deere Pedal Tractors for their 2nd Birthdays. There are also some cool pedal cars and bikes that they enjoyed and best of all they like to go cruising with Pop in his cars. When Mom and Dad want to tag along they usually take one of Pops cars too.
The boys are what convinced me to design and build another Wagon. They are still young but do have some of their own ideas and in the end we will all share in making more great family memories.

RMay that's great. You have some great cars and grandkids.
We adopted our first and he lives near us in Florida. Sadly the others were born after we retired and we only see them a few weeks in the summer.
Two of them were in strollers one summer. Now they have their own cars!
The youngest grandson, just three, loves his tractors too, big and small.

great pics ray... i would like to see the all the young ones take a interest in the old cars like i do.. i know it is not going to happen with all of them so i have to get used to the idea of the kids either just thinking of cars as a means of transportation or even going to the "dark side" and building some honda with neon lights, ugly wheels and tires and a fart box muffler...
i remember the first time my grandfather rode in my 57 chevy with a 396 4spd. and called it a death trap.. i was heart broke that he didnt feel the same way about it as i did, so i try to avoid pushing my ideas of what a cool car is on my grandkids.... who knows maybe someday they will see the light.. ha ha ha ha ha

Yah, my Dad didn't much care for my 55 Pontiac, either. Of course, he didn't much care for cars, other than as transportation. His idea of an oil change was to add a quart when the light started coming on. I remember taking his 60 Chevy wagon to the Standard station in town for an oil change. That's where Dad bought all his gas, oil, tires and batteries. When I told John I was there for an oil change, he looked at me and said he didn't ever remember changing the oil in it. Remeber the old oil filters that were like a cardboard inside a mesh frame and fit in a can that screwed to the block, instead of the disposable kind we get today? We took that off, and all there was inside was the mesh..........Dad never washed a car, he said that was what rain was for. He never washed the inside of the windshield, and he was a heavy smoker. Mom would wash the film off when she couldn't stand it any more. He used to tell me I would wash all the paint off my car if I kept washing it all the time. I wish he was around to see what we're doing out here in the desert with old cars.

This line makes me laugh. My Grandfather is the same way. If there is a gully washer, he backs his Buick out of the garage.

It is a bit ironic though. Now I own two of his vehicles. The Plymouth and his old F-100. They get plenty of washing now.

My Grandfather did actually wash his cars. When he went to get the $5 worth of gas, and the car was clean, he was asked "Who died or who's getting married?" Does that tell you when his cars were clean? LOL As it is, Arthur gets washed twice a year whether he needs it or not. Spring and fall, he gets washed and waxed, then left dirty until it is time to swap tires for the coming season.

dang kid is gonna drive me crazy!!!!!.. now he wants this pontiac wagon to build a "muscle car" wagon.. he thinks he can put "MY 69 pontiac 400 engine and 4spd trans" in the old lemans to make a GTO clone wagon.. i told him he better take a close look at that car . i have been using it as storage for transmission parts for years.. i still like the 71 vega idea with 4.3 v6 5spd. but i am just a senile old man so what could i possibility know..:)

You could continue the theme of the 57 Chevy hood and graft some fins onto it...

Tell the kid to hold out both his hands. One is for life's dreams that come true. The other is for life's bullsh!t. Ask him which one he thinks is going to fill up first.

Oh no! You also knew my dad! "Wish in one hand. S#@+ in the other. See which one gets full the fastest."
Or "you're too dumb to pour P*#@ out of a boot with the directions on the sole."
Sounds like WhiskeyRunner has his hands full. At least they are talking cars.
