There is no big secret ... there is a few things to keep in mind. Cost for getting your car/container off the ship and through customs can be very expensive especially in Europe (free trade?? It can cost as much as half of the shipping cost in different agent fees, and that is not tax and duty). Cheapest way is to arrange port to door in the US, so you don't get nasty surprises. Call shippers in the US not in Europe, since they tend to charge an arm and a leg. Try to get your car close to ports (remember there are ports at the big lakes). Car transport in the US can be costly as as costly as getting it across the pond. Check out tax/duty things!! It's different for different countries in the EU. Although importing your car to a port far from home can still be costly since you need to transport it home to your door. RoRo is often the cheapest way to ship our wagon is 975 from NY to Southampton. However you can't have anything inside the car like spare parts for example. A 40' container is about $3500, depends west/east coast how is packing it, etc.. If you get a good shipper and container packer you can get as many as four cars in a container, although when it's fullsize US cars it's most of the time three just and then some major space for parts. Shipping many containers at the same time is cheaper, you can bargain your self a good deal. One thing just shippers are about the most rude and over stressed people you will ever come accross! So be patient. This is the main reason I'm storing them in the US so I can combine shipping. Cheers Dyna
After searching again, it seems that oldtimers only pay 6% tax? Is this really right? And Rob, do you know a trustworthy company who can help with pick-up transport etc here, or should I arrange that myself? Sorry Dyna, for highjacking your thread...
Folks, First off big thanks for all you nice words .... Yep I was the winner . I got price of making my wallet lighter . Yes it is very loaded, few things I know it doesn't have there is no readin lights in the doom light, it's the std steering wheel, but it has cool things such as the door waring lights. Anyways its very loaded, the vinyl roof which I like a lot isn't exactly common place on wagons. I'm very happy with it.. Cheers Dyna
