    Big BOy was for getting freight over mountains, Challenger was for fast freight. Pretty impressive.

    That "cool looking train" was the GM Aerotrain, an attempt at producing a passenger train that would greatly reduce the operating costs of providing passenger service as railroads were getting strangled by the ICC. It consisted of the "power car," the EMD LWT-12, and a string of "coach" cars that were produced from--get this--GM motorcoach bus bodies!

    Between the pic in the Wiki article and the one you just snapped, it looks like the power car is suffering from a little bit of neglect (look at the Rock Island RR shield just below the cab side windows).

    a few more . the 57 car is powered by a similar plymouth engine as in the last photo and won an indycar race at dover i think they said

    the first pic is an original pony express outbuilding , the other pics are oregan trail wagon ruts and a description. then reflection hill ,this is close to the ruts and is supposedly original pioneer graffiti. that black line on the hill is hundreds of birds funny thing is this isnt oregan but right near the platte river in wyoming

    the riders are pony express reenactment riders ,for a few bucks they will carry a letter to your kids along the pony express route and mail it at the end in california with a special postmark

    That was an amazing road trip. I also thought you had a flat or the valve stem had bent. Some of those roads sure were deserted.
    Love everywhere you guys went!
