The Cubans have become very resourceful in keeping cars running. I've read most old American iron has been repowered, often with tiny east block diesels.
I wonder how they hook one of those to a Hydromatic?

In a local PBS documentary, where the host visited Cuba, the nice old cars was a lenghty section of the show.It included a visit to a man that built adaptors for such things.Usually a half inch thick chunk of metal, with holes for bolts in each direction and an internal extension for the crankshaft to properly mesh with the transmission.Shortening the driveshaft a half an inch completes the installation...I'm thinking there's a little more to it than that, but it was a visit Cuba show, not a customize old cars show...More time was spent at various cigar factories, than with the cars...

They were imported as gasoline powered trucks of which a Cuban engineer started converting them over to diesels.

Pretty cool, how come that yellow and green "car" looks like something from my childhood books written by Richard Scarry?

Not long before all the hurricanes I watched a special on old cars in Cuba. It was amazing how many still look original but mechanically whatever was laying around was adapted.
Almost like American ratrods only the Cuban cars are built for go not confusing people.

I think Ivy went to help storm victims. Welcome home.:Handshake:

This old thread is new to me and confusing. I read something about our brains storing memory and something else about sex. Then the age of 50 was mentioned, like that's old or something!
My brain still remembers almost everything I've read, seen and done. Still I can't remember what that sex thing is all about.

I think, Ivy went there to help herself?
Trying to influence German elections, as well as tying up other loose ends, Sir.

What's the pink and white convertible? My first thought was Hudson/Nash/Studebaker. Then, FoMoCo of some kind:

My guess is the mid-50's convertible is a Plymouth.

Only a real man will drive a Mary Kay pink car. It also had a white with pink trim rolled and pleated interior.

Earlier in the thread, 8 years ago. Someone was commenting on they wish they could go for parts. Just because they still have all these cars don't mean they got parts folks. On the contrary, they want to come HERE for parts. Those cars are cars are pieced together with what ever will work. There are ZERO parts to be had down there. Anything that's original you can bet is being utilized. Now if you want to go down there for parts for you diesel rum runner, bicycle, or chicken coop you'll be in business.

Exactly. Here's a half hour long video showing what Cuba's cars are like:

I heard they were even using vegetable oil (or something similar) for brake fluid.
