The 21575R14 radials are smaller than the old bias ply tires and the speedo was out by 10 MPH. According to Ray who was behind me in my 300,he was reading 65 when I was reading 75.
Gonna back up a bit here... Before we left Toronto and while Doug and I were busy with tires and paperwork,,Ray stayed with the wagon and guarded the tools, etc. He washed the car and the seller,Bill cleaned out his personal belongings out of the wagon. The old girl cleaned up well.here's a few more pics taken before we left..
I want to thank Ray and Doug for spending the entire day to help me bring her home. From left,Ray,me,and Doug.
I did not have the car for less than an hour and Doug started to remove parts already! Well the goofy mirror on the right fender and the old mudflaps had to go.
I also want to thank the staff of the CTC store and especially the technician Scott who did the u joint repair.I asked for permission to take a few pics of the undercarriage while she was up in the air. I was capable doing the repair but it was a job that called for a hoist for a fully loaded car that was low to the ground to begin with. I did not pack any axle stands and most places frown upon parking lot repairs. The belly of the brown beast is in really good shape..
Also good news is the two most common areas known for rust are in great shape. The rear quarter panels. The spare tire hump on the right side, and the gas tank on the left side are both excellent. yes,the tailpipe is broken..Dual exhaust will fix that,LOL
Even the rocker panels are in great shape. Hey Ray! You missed a spot of dirt when washing the car!! LOL!!
Our day started at 5:30 AM. With all the adventures before hitting the highway, and making a couple stops on the way back, drop off everybody, the waygun landed in my driveway at 8:03 PM. I left when it was dark, and arrived when it was dark.
Today,I unloaded all the tires, tools and crap left behind in the car. I also vacuumed out the interior and -like the rest of her--cleaned up very well. This car was well loved and cared for--and it shows. It is a time capsule. Went for a couple drives and everybody stopped and stared at it. This car is cool! Brady Bunch cool!
Congrats man, I just got my Mopar wagon from the 81yo orig owner in July. I love it and drive it daily (till the snow comes). You will get more looks in that thing than any other car you own.
Just a great story, waygun. That car IS a time capsule and cleaned up like new. Thanks for the play by play. You will be happy with that wagon forever. NICE car! You are a lucky man to have that wagon and to have good friends to help you when needed.
