    both are do-able

i plan to do an olds someday. the pain of the olds is getting the taillights of a regency grafted in (cant have chevy taillights) the grill is easy, use a custom cruiser grill and steering wheel cover the rest is details.

the pontiac is a lil harder. you can chrome a set of early caprice taillights and pass it off as a pontiac. but graphting a grille is a lil bit of a challenge. you may be able to use a bonny grille ....if i had a spare caprice laying around id give it a shot.

I'm glad I joined this forum as my horizon is being broadened and I'm getting a full education on classic American cars!!

I'm curious with 72KingswoodEstate's user name & avatar. How far back does the 'Kingswood' model go & is it still an available model?
And pardon my ignorance from downunder, but is this a GM model?:)

The reason I ask is the "Kingswood" (made by GM-H) is what we down here consider an Australian icon, as much part of Australia as the Kangaroo. Although has not been produced for many years now:cry:.

I'll have to dig up some nice Kingswood wag pics to show you. But for now I'm off to the gallery to find your Kingswood...:)

I'm not positive, GMWAG, but I THINK Chevy carried the Kingswood Badge only from '69 - '72. And by the way...we are glad you joined up with us too!

As for the '90's B body wagons....SOOOOO many things HAVE and CAN be done with that body style. I like the Poncho idea.

I had a black/wood '87 CC. There are a lot of other colors on those box wagons. Although, black is rare on either the Olds or Buick. They came in gold, brown, white, burgundy, gray, beige, light blue, dark blue......

Yup....blue was the most popular color car. Don't know if that's true anymore though. I happen to not like blue cars for some reason. I don't mind a real DARK blue exterior but no blue inside at all for me.

Yeah - why is that? They put extra car preservative in the blue paint?

    ice ice blue baby

Our 86 Plymouth Reliant wagon was that ice blue color...And the paint job was the least of it's problems...If you get one, prepare yourself for a lot transmission and engine mount repairs.(and DON'T go to AAMCO) Other than that, the cars don't seem to be so bad.:yup:

I've had them....Chrysler, not Plymouth. You want the 2.2 engine ONLY and I fix things myself. Aamco would never be an option even if I didn't.

    Aamco

Apparently their ad campaigns and policies are to cover the fact that they're not really very good at what they do...(1) Got our 86 Reliant for $400.It came with a tranny problem, but the rest of the car was in brand new condition(this was in 96 when it was ten)Took it to AAMCO,thinking they knew what they were talking about...It looks like they didn't,within three months of AAMCO first fixing the tranny,we took it back twice, because something was going wrong. On the third time,we took it to a local tranny shop...Their estimation was,AAMCO kept fixing the tranny but not the cracked flywheel...(2)when he was a VW repairman,my brother-in-law had several visits from AAMCO,about VW's they couldn't repair. It turned out that AAMCO kept replacing trannies, but not checking the wiring harnesses...Once we went to the local tranny shop, the tranny wasn't a problem,it was the engine mounts.

Hi, as Silverfox said, the Chevrolet Caprice wagons were badged as Kingswood Estate from 1969-1972. Starting in '73, it was called Caprice Estate. The Impala wagon from 69-72 were simply called Kingswood. Yeah, its a Chevrolet, so its a GM car. They are not made now as the last Chevrolet full-size Caprice wagon was made in 1996. AFAIK, there that name has never been used again here in the states.

Yeah, I think I have about three old photos of my wagon here on the site.

Thats right Silverfox, that name Kingswood/Kingswood Estate was used from 69-72.

Yeah, that Pontiac sedan/wagon idea 91-96 is interesting.... like someone said, if you tried Pontiac version, one could add chrome strips to the taillights, which is basically what they did on the mid 80s full-size Pontiacs. Olds would be harder.

Also, wouldnt one want to do the BIG RWD Oldsmobile sedan with the same design as the Roadmaster, rather than Caprice sedan.... the Roadmaster had a different rear roofline you know. Dont forget Cadillac also had the Fleetwood Brougham from 93-96 on this chassis.
