That's a very nice site. There's a lot of photos there, but which of those cars are actually in his possession today?

He has the 72 with the Fuel injected Cadillac engine, the two that are on the first page, 75 and 76 Caprice Estate woody wagons, a 72 Big Block Caprice Estate. Not all of his are pictured. I will go to the dark side and try and steal a picture of his cars from over there. Be back in a few minutes with a pic

I have seen first hand Mr. McCoy's wagon collection. Its is with out a doubt the cleanest gathering of 71-76 Gm wagons you will find. Wagon porn to say the least!!!!!!!

    Great wagon porn!

What was the rationale behind the 71's louvered tailgate?

No idea but the sedans had louvered trunk lids to. Maybe it was in "style" back then.

I believe the louvres were meant to help with air flow through out the car. They really are functional and not just for looks. All the full size Gm's in 71 had them, wagons and sedans.

It was part of GM's "flow through" ventilation system, and it also featured a fan that always ran.

The "flow through" design continued after 1971, but the louvers were placed in less conspicuous locations, such as the door pillars. They could only be seen when a door was opened.

Here's a photo of the rear door opening of a '73 Olds Custom Cruiser. I've circled in yellow the louver for the ventilation system.
