You think we could do some 'Speed Stealth' and then hand our wives the keys? Then let's see "How it feels up there."
You wanna see some Torquers, go to the FordSix site, and then really frustrate yourself and look at the performance goodies, AFTER you put the drool bib on! http://fordsix.com/forum/ http://www.classicinlines.com/home.asp http://www.classicinlines.com/tech.asp
We got THE CALL, so I didn't get much done (by my standards anyway). Thanks to Andy's keen eye, I got a good image of the gasket that goes between the spacer and the intake manifold. The manuals had diddly: I thought I had the mounting studs all cleaned up, but I missed them, and had to soak them in vinegar for an hour and get the rust off, find new lock washers and finally get the EGR and spacer assembly on. The carb is on and it is the thick gasket since the vacuum passages for the Ford lead into the main (and only) port. My kit is made by Hygrade which has been in business for a few decades, so I went searching and came up with two really nice links. One is a Carb vendor with lots of old manuals and carb kit catalogs from 1912 and up, and the other is a Performance Shop with a huge range of goodies: http://www.thecarburetorshop.com/ http://www.streetperformance.com/ Hygrade kits are made by Blue Streak Canada, and owned by SMP Corp. http://www.smpcorp.com/ Very worth checking out their tech tips. http://www.bluestreak.ca/web_app/PubPages/Page.aspx?ID=1 Here's the brands and plants worldwide: http://www.bluestreak.ca/web_app/PubPages/Page.aspx?ID=5 Tomorrow should be D-Day.
What a wierd day! Andy lives south of me by about 3 miles, as the crow flies. No rain. I got more time wiping the water off my tools than on the car! 3 times, three t-shirts, and one of the prettiest Rainbows I've seen in decades! Anyway, I did get a lot of details done. If the forecasters have two-clues to rub together (I think they're all highschool kids or witch-doctors), I should be driving around tomorrow afternoon (Late). No pics. I was dancing between raindrops and mosquitoes. Now there's a quick weight-loss program. These mosquitoes have straws for blood-sucking! They call us the Mosquito Capital here, and this weather was a feast-day for the little beggers.
Andy's comin' over later with some good tuneup tools (I don't have a vacuum gauge and compression tester) and we'll tweak her vitals into run mode! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
It may be throaty too cause I had a new 302-V8 exhaust installed a month before I blew the motor. Bigger pipe diameter (2.5") and the muffler is about 6 inches longer than the six and a bit wider.
We did it, Andy! We got her running. Sweet too! I think the Neutral/Start switch was acting up, cause there's no fluid in the tranny. Maybe the torque converter, but not the tranny. Thank gawd we didn't try moving it. Details tomorrow. But its done!!! I'll fill up the trans before anything else, and go from there.
Gotta wash her off and give her another coat of wax. I did all the new engine oiling through the plug holes. The plugs were perfect! I never took them off. We spun her for about 3-10 second runs on the starter, and that got the gasoline up from the tank. Put the plugs back in, gave her a couple cranks, and VROOOM! Black smoke from the oil burning off from the top of the chambers, a few sparks from the muck that was around the plugs (and fell in when I put them back in - mostly sanding dust) and then Andy got out while I held the throttle cable, and adjusted the rebuilt carb. Like a charm! Got her toasty warm, and then took her up to a few thousand RPM - rock solid! I have to adjust the exhaust donut, finish the vacuum lines, and fix one wiring error (seat belt comfort solenoids should run only when the key is on.) Not bad at all! Downright outstanding! Far freakin' excellent! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima
