Thanx for that. I had read that to do the timing belt you needed to remove the front bumper. We have to check it out as we don't know when it was changed last. Now the rear wiper and front washer work. It took a bit for the wife to figure it out. Which is odd since the guy was the one who told us the rear wiper didn't work. So looks like just a pair of leaky valve cover gaskets.

Reminds me of that Hyundai minivan commercial where the crash test facility is showing a bunch of kids the crash tests, and the kids are loving it. After a crash, one kid says, "Now let's crash the gold one!" The head tester says "That's not gold, it's 'Desert Sand Mica.'" The kid then says "Whatever. Just crash it.":smash:

Well thought I would bump this thread as one there have been alot of things done to it and alot of money put into it. But that being said it was all worth it. We had to put new springs on it as 3 were broken. Yup 3 coil springs out of 4 broken. And well new from VW they are $150 each. Or you can buy lowered springs for $200 for a complete set. And well the stock VW ones are the ones that broke. After getting that done we took it to get aligned and they told us not only did we need tires but that we needed a new control arm. Well back on the internet and I found a sweet group buy for a complete new front suspension for a little over $200. Worked out well and they have a lifetime guarentee. We bought some new tires and the car is super. Rides great and drives great. I scrape the underbody one some speed bumps so I just try to avoid them. And the thing is the best in snow. It will out drive a Subaru any day. A great car to own as long as you know going in you will probably have to sink money into it. But you get a great car.

Since this thread, my next-door neighbors traded their diesel Jetta and RAV4 for a Toyota 4Runner (kinda bitchin' build on it) and a Passat wagon. When I told the wife what was usually wrong with them, she just smiled at me and went about her business...what does she know that I don't?

A good set of lowering springs can make or break a car. Those look good and I imagine the ride is still decent. Not so sure about the green paint on the wheels though...
