How's this for a mean looking pickup truck???? California Special And another cool rod Sweet Rod Classic Ford Mean '66 Impala Ragtop Really a great show. Put Tuck in the back seat, Eddie up front with me, windows down and cruise control set at 70mph, and drove back roads home, from Bastrop to Elgin and then through Taylor. No traffic, nice weather and big old Buick. Good day with my kiddos. Hope everyone had a great weekend. -Mike
Mike, Thanks for taking the time to post this great coverage. I always look forward to your show coverage and someday will get up the nerve to tackle Austin in my old wagon. Thanks Rodney
Glad you liked the pics. Was a good show and a nice day. Big thanks to all the vets out there for your service to our country. -Mike
Thanks 81 for the great coverage. I can't believe how big that car show was. Wow. One nicer than the next. They look like New Jersey plates on your Limited, which is stunning, by the way. I thought you lived in Texas.
There's a long story there, as far as the Jersey plates. I'll try to shorten it. The car came from California in 2004, was sold new there and came out of Barstow, so a desert car. I flew to LA and drove it back here to Austin. It went to my friend in New Jersey in 2006 and was registered there. He lost his storage in 2008 and did not want it to sit outside, so I flew up and brought it back to Texas. It's been here since then. It's still registered and insured in Jersey, but does not live there. The 1-2 times a year my friend from Jersey comes to Texas to visit and ride motorcycles in the hill country, he drives the Electra. Other than that I use it as a weekend toy. It just went over 51K original miles. When I got it in 2004, it had about 34K on it. It's a nice old car for sure. -Mike
As usual, you've sho nuff posted up some beautiful cars again, including your Electra. My sho nuff favorites in no particular order, 1) the 65 Chevelle in evening orchid paint, 2) orange 69 Camaro with black vinyl, 3) chevy 3100 pu, 4) 53 Ford Country Sedan, 5) 66 SS396 Chevelle in blue. Bummer to see the burned Mach 1, but that's sho nuff a grisly reminder of ya'll's recent fires. I liked seeing the 73 New Yorker, my boss back at the Gulf station when I was in HS bought a new 73 in brown while I worked there. I think he had up over 200,000 mi on it without even ever pulling the heads on it. Sho nuff a durable Chrysler! Pretty neat seeing the Corvair turnout, and at least 3 of them had AC! Wonder how well that worked on those cars. Again, thanks for sharing the pics. (Note: I think this post may have a record number of "sho nuffs" in it. Can a mod or somebody with administrative access check that for me?)
Seeing the 49(?) Caddy reminded me. I heard the power windows were hydraulic assist in them and apparently fluid leaks were not uncommon. And the first AC systems were mammoth involving a big evaporator unit in trunk under rear package shelf, also the compressors were direct drive without a clutch. Useless drivel.......sorry.....back to looking at the cool pictures.
I helped fix up a 68 Caddy DeVille Convertible and was shocked that the power locks on those were run by vaccum lines. Getting those to work was zero fun. Goes back to the old the joke that if a normal car has a single tail light bulb and a brake switch, a Caddy will have three lights, two relays, two switches, and some kind of actuator, to do the same thing. Ha!
Yup....back in the good old days you always new when you were going to have trouble with your power windows or power vert top....you could smell it coming. Literally.
