Mike, When did this drive In near Ennis open? I don't remember seeing it from I45 the couple times I was out there(2001 and 2007). Looks like ya'll had a great time!
Here's the whole show [the hotdogs at 3 minutes] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFfRrY68SLY&feature=related My daughters knew it was time to sound the horn when the hotdog jumped in the bun, when they were 3. They are 13 now and still don't want to admit they know why
I'm not sure. It opened with two screens, then added two more, and now they have six screens. It's on the west side of I-45 between Ennis and Farris, just south of Big D. -Mike
We still have a drive-in where I live. It's just a few minutes from my place. There aren't a great deal of them left here in Ontario. I seem to have gotten old enough that I'd much sooner sit in my recliner to watch a movie than in my car so The Mrs and I haven't been there since we were dating. I remember my parents filling the back of the Bel Air wagon with popcorn and drinks and taking us to see such stinkers as "The Villain", and "Car Wash". Thankfully "Car Wash" was followed by "Smokey And The Bandit". Suddenly the drive-in was a pretty cool place! The drive-in here in town is one of the few with a long viewing season and they're final showing each year is a dusk to dawn multi-feature on Thanksgiving weekend. In high school a bunch of us used to scarf down turkey and rush off to that all-nighter. While Thanksgiving is in October for us Canucks, I can tell you that around midnight it gets mighty cold if you're outside watching movies in the back of a pickup truck. A list of drive-in's still functioning in Southern Ontario. http://www.driveinmovie.com/Canada/Ontario/
Theres a drive in here also. Been there forever. They were going to go bankrupt but they got a boost by the city here to keep it open. The Solono drive-In in Concord now has the sunday morning swap meet also. It always amazes me how these things have somewhat survived in todays age of technology of the web and dvd. Must be pure nostalgia that keeps them as well as movie theaters going.
Yes...I think you hit on an important emotion traveling across the ages, F27. The way the country is panning out, I believe people are reaching out for those nostalgic times to bring back memories of better times. I think, at least for some of us, the same applies to the nurturing of station wagons.
A lot of parents find that their children fall asleep much quickler and easier in the car. Why not take them for a drive, get to watch a movie, play teenager while the kids are snoozing in back, and have a nice evening? I suspect that is one factor that keeps people going. Then there is the whole nostalgia thing for anyone who attended as a kid - and there are just some shows where looking through a windshield makes it all seem so realistic (Bullitt, American Graffiti and many more). In todays world of huge expenses just to go out to eat, heading to the drive-in could be a more affordable and realistic way to fill a weekend evening, with the kids as part of it. Just guessing, of course.............. A question is = why do you go? Or, why not? We go because of the nostalgia aspect - but do not go very often. Been several years actually. I have a better sound system at home than in the car, and my DW and I differ on what movies to watch. In reality, given I typically fall asleep in any movie, having to then wake up and drive home vesus stagger down the hallway and up the stairs to the bedroom, I tend toward the latter 9 times out of 9.5.
