i have a neighbor from hell . he called animal control . I come home to find the officer sitting in her car writing me a violation for no shelter for my dog who was on the side of my home. I ask did you get out and look because their was a store bought Rubbermaid doghouse sitting right next to the dog. according to her it wasn't siz1e appropriate. to which I replied you ever see a Florida cottontop driving her big old caddy and you can barely see her or a huge guy driving a cooper mini . isn't that siz1e appropriate. my dog weighed 45 lbs. and the doghouse was rated to 50 lbs.
Some neighbors are anti-dog and hate other people having them. We've only complained once. Well many times but only one Pit Bull. Our son and other neighbors had to walk 1/4 mile up our dead end from the bus stop. Neighbor at corner would not tie their Pit Bull up and it seemed viceous. It got so bad it bit the tire on the electric company truck and blew it, while he was driving! We had called repeatedly as did the other neighbors with school kids. One day the kids were afraid to get off the bus. The dog seemed to be getting worse. Before that they'd get off and carefully walk up the street keeping an eye on the dog. The bus driver called animal control and sat there blocking the narrow cross road for almost an hour. They took that Pit away. Seems like usually someone has to get hurt before anything is done. Same with crazy neighbors. The people who owned it are nice and were with kids too. They've had a half dozen more Pit Bulls since. Some they let run for awhile. These things work both ways. I hate seeing a dog on a chain.
My neighbor has two pit bulls. They've attacked my Shepard twice. Last time cost me over $1000 at the vet. They never even asked about the vet bill. The Vet called animal control, I didn't. They called the neighbor, and they called me. They asked if my dog was on a leash. I said no, we were on our 5 acres. They said if not on a leash, they won't do anything. I didn't ask them to do anything, as I now walk my dog on a leash, and carry a 38 in my pocket. Wonder if they'll call about the dead pit bulls in my yard if they come back?
Buster, I've heard of similar cases where the owner had to pay all the bills. That seems fair. Especially if your dog was in your yard. We have five acres and one next door neighbor right now. His dog and the lady's down the street run in our yard when they take them for walks without a leash. 1/2 mile road with houses only on our side on five acre lots. And only a few people living here. I feel that's fine as long as I don't go outside and get bit! I say if a dog atacks the owner should pay.
Thankfully, the Oklahoma Legislature passed a bill and the Governor signed last year, a law that bans cities, towns and counties from banning any breeds of dog in the state. Several cities had bans on pit bulls of all types, Rottweilers, and Dobermans, on the completely WRONG permise that all of these dogs are bad by design, and needed to be banned. All of these municipal laws were immediately voided, but unfortunately, any owners that were affected before the overturn of those statutes were screwed and could not seek recompense for the loss of their dogs.
Still a mystery.... Have not seen or heard the dog since. The retired parents are away and I know they don't and never have taken the dog and I don't know the guy well enough to ask WTF? I can't say for sure but I'm kinda wondering along the lines of what KK said, maybe the dog was not the problem but who knows:confused: All I know for sure was that the little Pit was very friendly timid girl every time we met........
Well I have noticed the pit around a couple days after my last post. Talked with the dad today (next door to son) and..... The guy who owns the friendly Pit took in a room mate with a bull dog. Guy had not lived there for 2 weeks before he was kicked out, and I never saw the bull dog. It appears the owner of the Bull felt it fine to leave the dog out side with the gate open when he went to work. First complaint was from our mail lady who could not deliver the mail on day witch a warning was dropped off. 2nd complaint not only involved the bylaw cops, but the cops them selves were over there the nite before. The Bull Dog charged at and bit a kid delivering papers. So the guy and his dog got tossed out that nite and the Bylaw cops were over getting there paper work done I guess, not knowing where to find the guy ( but he now has been found). Knowing our bylaws, there will be a fine for sure. If it's the dogs first offence and by the sounds of it the kid was more shaken up than hurt...either way the dog will be considered a danger to public and will for life be required to be on leash and with some sort of muzzle. 2nd offence normally means the dog would be put down.
