    IIRC, the Cortina was among several European car models that were sold by the big 3 in North America in the early 70's. I assume to counter the Japanese threat of small(er) cars, even before the oil embargo of 1973.

    I particularly lusted after the 1971 Ford Capri Mk I, which was apparently based on the Cortina platform (although I didn't know it at the time) and imported into Canada and the U.S..

    But, as it turned out, I never got to own a Capri. :( Instead my first car was a '66 Mustang. :D

    The front suspension of both Cortinas and Capris are similar. However, the Capris had an overhead cam engine and the Cortinas had what looks like a sawed-off Falcon/Comet cast iron six
