No, you'll need to get hold of an oxygen-acetylene torch, in order to reach a high enough temperature for glowing your bend. The only thing I know about spring steel is that it'll lose it's flexibility, once heated with a torch. Hardening might restore its original qualities. But, you'd have to look that up somewhere, to make sure

He has, and there is better parts availability for it than this wagon, however, for the most part companies skip over the 1957-1960 years, and the few things you can get are much more expensive than other years.

I think the tailgate is just going to be without a torsion bar. This is becoming too much of a hassle. I've emailed several places, including sites like broncograveyard who sell torsion bars and have asked for information about the manufacturers to see if they'd be willing to make one, but no response yet. I don't have an oxy-acetylene setup or any of the tools I'd need, anyway.

I found a spring company that will make them. They want about $500 for one, or if they make two, about $300 each. It might be an option if someone else will buy one at $300. Otherwise I think it's just too expensive.

I'm reasonably sure, even across this great country, that you have a very good chance of finding at least one other buyer, but it could take some time to find that buyer. But I think that doing it will have the added bonus of getting yours done as quickly as possible.

Hey Squiggledog- I’ve got a 1965 Mercury Commuter with the same torsion bar. Mine snapped on Sunday. I’d be willing to go in on that 2 for 600 deal. Let me know

If even more persons were to join in, the whole deal would turn out to be even more economical, since it's only a matter of time, until additional springs will break

True. My roommate is still trying to justify the high cost. Hopefully a second stimulus check comes.
