Interesting how many tea companies became grocery stores. The Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. became the A&P Grocery store chain. The Jewel Tea Co. became the Jewel grocery store chain. We had both where I lived in IL. Back in the 50's, Jewel used to deliver items to your house in brown delivery vans that closely resembled the UPS trucks of today. You could order teas, coffee, pound cakes, breads, and various and sundry other items.

Grew up in the 50's outside Balimore, Md and remember Jewell teas and pound cakes in our house also. How my Mom purchased them I have no idea. Do remember shopping at the Glen Burnie A&P every Saturday morning with my parents though . Thanks for the post. It brought back some good memories.

I don't think A&P was in the Pacific Northwest long enough to see one, let alone shop at one, but as a model railroader, I've read about "The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company."
And I think my grandparents used this in a mocking manner: "We care at A&P!"

Beautiful example of a nice F-8.

But wondering what M.E. L. stands for?
