There was an accident years ago in Mukilteo, where an '80 Mustang hatch was "run over" by a loaded log truck that couldn't stop in time, and on a steep hill. The upshot is that the right steer tire rode up the left rear, and as the driver swerved left, the tire crushed the B-pillar and rode across the driver door before rolling off, and except for the B-pillar, the car wasn't crushed more than 3-4" downward. Why? Because the steer axle only holds a max of 19K pounds, as opposed to the drive and trailer axles, which load to a max of 34K pounds. Now if one of those axles' wheels rode up the Mustang, they would've crushed it like a beer can.
. Back in the day our small city had its own Coke bottling plant ..... as a kid I remember seeing this truck making deliveries . Looks like a Dodge or a Fargo. .
Yep, found this photo of a '47. They even posed it at the same angle for us. Do not believe I have ever seen one in person.
There is a guy here local that drives one, the only one I have ever seen. And he drives it a LOT. I'll try to snap a pic next time I see him out.
