. I think it was painted .... back in the 1970's I did a lot of custom painting .... nothing like this truck but the basics are the same .... endless hours meticulously laying tape .... a few minutes of painting .... then several hours carefully removing tape .... then a clear coat to seal it in. Back then none of us had much money but we all had plenty of time ... flame jobs same thing ... endless hours of very careful masking and just a few minutes of actual painting ... hardest part was getting both sides the same ... it was all done freehand and by eye. .
I wonder if this photo was for Dan's Barber shop, since there are fellows looking out from both of those windows. Or if it's just a coincidence and they both happen to be looking out the window at the photographer simply out of curiosity.
Haha, I saw that ad on FB, and screenshot it so I could post it on the Ranchero website. On FB, one of the commenters talked about how top-heavy that Ranchero would be.
Top heavy for sure In Winnipeg around 1980 a carpenter type guy built a camper on an El Camino .... heavy lumber ... overhang on both sides ... overhang on roof ... rear 2 feet past bumper. Time he was done the suspension was bottomed out ... when he went around a corner you would swear it would roll over because it tipped so much. Saw him limp it around town a couple more times then it disappeared. .
