Thought I'd share some pics of two station wagon toys from my childhood. (Yup, I still have them). The first one is a rubber one from the late 40s and the other is a potmetal casting from the late 50s or early 60s. Considering what a destructive kid I was, it's hard to believe these survived all these years and are still intact.
I've always wanted to sneak into the backyard of the house I grew up in and dig it all up. I'm sure there has to be hundreds of matchbook cars buried back there.
LOL When I get home tonight I'll post some picks of my Matchbox/Hotwheels junkyard. It all started with one of my neighbors kids. He used to play with his stuff in the carport, and when Mom or Dad came home they'd run over them. He actually took all the smashed ones, lined them up against the fence, built a little wall with pebbles and a gate and had a little tow truck parked there. When they moved he left everything and I had a great idea - why not build a diorama? I still ocasionally find one in the street or a parking lot somewhere to add to the collection. I've even been known to kick one under a tire myself if I find one that's "not quite wrecked enough" yet.
Excellent, Wojo. Looks like some of those bad boys were involved in some pretty nasty roll over accidents. I hope nobody got hurt in any of them, but looking at the damages, I fear that wouldn't have been the case!! I used to take matches to my amt 1/25th scale plastic models I had built and make dents in them. Some of them were pretty realistic as I recall. I remember getting the front of a 66 Bonneville heated up to the point of it being malleable and then pushing it into a pencil It looked exactly like it had run into a tree.
I was thinking they all met up with King Kong or perhaps Godzilla maybe. Had to read up the thread a little to check whether that was true... ...oh wait, of course that wasn't true.
