Good luck with it, maybe it will surprise us both and soldier on without issue. Fingers crossed, don't want the wife to leave you:rolleyes:

The jeep is keeping par on this project again today. I attempted to get the broken studs out of the passenger manifold and they broke off flush. On Friday, I will be taking them to work with me to use some of my tools there to get them out. 20181127_154244.jpg
On the brigrther side of things, I was able to get the new timing set on and start painting the cover, fuel pump, water pump, oil pump, and pulleys. They will all look sharp in there. 20181127_161014.jpg

Bummer. This thing is fighting you all the way isn't it?

Looks like it's time to start shopping for a wrecked chivy with a 5.3L V8, trans and transfer case that you can stuff in this thing next summer.
It can't be that hard right? The guys on Hot Rod garage do it all of the time.

Oh, I'm sure it's not terribly hard. I've done engine swaps before. This jeep will be modified slightly, but I'll be keeping it period correct and brand specific. Egr delete, 4bbl, mild cam, etc. I've already done away with the a.i.r. system and modified the vacuum a little to take out the overheat vac advance. But no sbc swaps.

Hitler was also fighting a multi-front war and look how that turned out. If only he had access to a manifold billy club and the dreaded patina toe

Lol. 4 year old boots that keep on kicking. I have a new pair, but they started to stink something awful so they're in time out.

Today's progress pictures. That's everything that will be painted. Everything that has came off got put back to original black color.

Interesting, the OEM water pump was aluminum. The napa aftermarket is cast iron. Assembly is tomorrow. Along with a trip to the bolts store.

Not much progress today. I have a good friends funeral to go to, so not much in the mood to wrench. I did manage to get the overspray cleaned off of all mating surfaces, torque the camshaft bolt, and get the balance snout sleeve on and drove a new crank seal in. 20181129_105942.jpg 20181129_111017.jpg 20181129_110241.jpg

No, it sure isn't. He was only 29 too. Way too young. Thank you

Well, I tried a few different extractors and nothing got the broken studs out. I ended up drilling them out completely and chasing the threads with a tap. Now i only have to buy a piece of tube to replace the cat and the exhaust is ready to go back together. As a matter of fact, I think the only hold up I have now is time and a new battery. Better get moving!

It looks like you got lucky with chasing those threads. Didn't you heat up the manifold corners, before attempting extracting those studs or did they bust off as you were removing the crossover pipe?

I didn't use heat. I knew it might have made it easier, but I didnt want to harden the metal in case I had to drill on it.

It won't harden the metal, if you don't cool it down rapidly. Heating metal with a torch has the opposite effect
