Nor would I. Some 1950s cars, maybe. I thought it would have been done away with by 1970.

Some still were. My Babe, a '79 Ranchero, still uses a 5V module for the gauges except the tach and fuel. But what surprises me, is that AMC electrical engineers put the regulator inside a gauge.

Maybe, they had a large surplus of old guage mechanisms of which they attached modern faces to. Otherwise, I can't imagine anyone needing to install 6-volt anything besides ignition parts

It was cheaper and easier to include a voltage regulator, than to redesign the gauges.

Although I find the fact it had 6 volt gauges in 84 surprising to a degree, it does kind of stand to reason when you think about this particular vehicle. The first Wagoneer came out in 1963, so it's certainly possible that certain components weren't updated as time went on. Maybe the gauges were originally 6 volt and through all of the updates the Wagoneer received over the years, changing them (the gauges, from 6v to 12v) wasn't deemed necessary. If it wasn't broke, why fix it?

I guess, a hint on if they were surplus from over-ordered suppliers would be to find out when they went over to 12 volt guages. If they did this somewhere in the middle of a production year, it could be that they exhausted an unwanted supply. The same as what happened to the last remaining 265 c.i.d. Chevrolet V-8s during the 1957 production period

Sold. $3500. Had to dig a new well on the property and the wagoneer drew the short straw. New owner drove it 2 hours home. Thank you all for your help with it. 20190725_185101.jpg

Damned shame. But $3500's a good price, considering everyone else thinks they're gold-dipped and charge the Moon, stars and the Sun.

That's a bummer, but I'm glad to hear it is going to a good home.

I'd say that $3,500 is a good deal if this one is any indication of value:

Frankly, I think the seller is a little delusional, but I can't deny that these rigs are steadily going up in value.

F%&*ing speculators, but the real culprits are the @$$holes with much more money than common sense, paying those ridiculous prices.

    There's a sucker born everyday.

I've always liked Wagoneers. And there have been times that I have thought it would be fun to own one. But if this trend continues, there will never be a chance I could afford one.

If the high mileage is the ONLY flaw with that one, the price is not far out there. A new Wagonmaster resto is 50k+
These wagons will do 2 things, They will become an american icon, and they will birth main stream interest in our station wagons and maybe some sedans. after all, we all know that the good ones are hard to find anymore. deme derby bait.

Notice the seller said he can show some other examples “for sale” which is a big difference than “sold”. I’d say that’s steep for a wagoneer. Maple Motors, Hendersonville, TN. All these cars are completely restored not one over $30,000. Still want that wagoneer?? CB6D0108-581C-498C-805A-DEE9B48BE6C9.jpeg
