These guys are tools. Both of them, the original owner and the new flipper.

Original guy with humor sells it to this clown for less than I offered, some BS story about how they had one when they were growing up and he wants to restore it for his kids. Now the fool is trying to sell it for 7x as much after wiping it down and changing the wheels. All the gas tank draining, carb cleaning, etc, was done by the original owner to get it running for sale.

I'm done. Sick of the BS on CL and eBay. I am only buying cars with no known history from impound/abandoned auctions and I will treat them as if I just pulled them from a pasture. I'm not buying anything until we move. That is Priority One. I need a garage. I can finish work on my Gran Torino. I can find new projects. Buy a pickup truck and a trailer to bring them home. Make trips up to Nebraska and all these places the derby guys live and steal the nice ones out from under them.

I'm beyond pissed about this particular car.

I'm sure the guy is an "enthusiast" except that green '73 he has been peddling for about a year on the Houston CL...it's as rough as this '76. Just looks nice. Some people think a paint job, wheels, and a vacuum are all you need to make skads of money selling cars. This fool is one of them.

Occupant, please make sure you send the original idiot the ebay ad link so he can see just how dumb he really is. A little satisfaction. David :)

Well...I don't understand why the original seller would sell it to someone for less than an offer he already had?? I don't care what kind of story the guy had. THEN....turns out the guy is a blatant liar.
I don't blame yo for being pissed, occu!

At this point I'm just going with tow company auctions. I would rather spend scrap metal price, and if it runs, great. If I can make it run, great. If I can't, STRIP IT and SCRAP IT.

Top 3 on my watchlist now:

    2000 Ford F-150 SuperCab http://www.renebates.com/cgi-bin/mnlist.cgi?bates81/99992
    1999 Dodge Durango http://lonestaronline.com/listings/details/index.cfm?itemnum=990988609#TOP
    1998 Ford Crown Vic http://lonestaronline.com/listings/details/index.cfm?itemnum=990305292#TOP

Crown Vic isn't a cop package so that might be a good thing. Blue cloth guts, low miles for a '98. And a lot of people don't know where Blum is (it's about a half hour from me) so I might score a good deal on that pickup. I see other trucks like it going for $4000-$5000 so if I can fix the air and the wipers, I could make enough money off it to buy any wagon I want. Like that black '73 Country Squire in San Antonio.

I like that wagon a lot. But I'll be pretty upset if I email and call that person and make an offer and then set up childcare and get ready to go get it and then get a phone call saying they sold it to some guy from Houston who had one like it when they were a kid and wants to restore it for his kids, then it ends up back on CL for 9 times what he paid.

I think I'm going to be out of the looking for a wagon game for a bit. Want to get moved up to Wichita Falls, have a house, have a garage, have a backyard with gate access so I can hide all sorts of cars back there, and then start picking up anything I want. But I'll try not to focus on CL, I've done nothing but piss myself off with CL ads and CL sellers, all the flakiness and all the lies, and then even on the ones worth getting I haven't been able to get wifey approval, and then even on the one she says go get I get stuck with some other problem.

It's much easier to have low expectations buying an impound auction car assuming everything is bad and nothing is good and being pleasantly surprised if anything is worth saving.

Well....you could always get some people to bid it way up and then not show up. He re-lists it...do it again, etc, etc.
Of course, I would NEVER do anything like that. :D

He has 3 nice looking wags! I have to say....to ME....there IS a big difference between a 70 454 and the 70 402. Not sure if that car was once green or not...hard to tell if the door jambs are green or silver. I would say that 72King's car might be a better buy at the $4000 price he offered it at than this one. Even with the engine quirk. :2cents::D
