There should be a law against auto manufacturers running out of parts. Trying to find floor vinyl for these wagons is impossible. The nerve of those guys not keeping a 51 year supply of vinyl!!!!!!!!!
more work done: head liner was removed, painted with vinyl paint and re-installed. Decks are going to look good with this two tone effect. If you don't like brown, sorry.
Just ordered new tail gate seals from Steele Products. I hope they fit. I broke down and ordered one yard of vinyl from SMS, mine will be brown but the pattern is spot on. One section of my deck was wasted. Getting it to lay as thick as an original will require some thinking. Maybe a cheap piece of vinyl under the new OEM stuff?
Some of you out there are experiencing the same problem I have, your wagon came with wiring shorted out to the tailgate. After repairing my wire, I noticed the area that was causing the problem was the body to frame mount metal edge. Here's what I came up with for a solution: after-market wire insulator, 1/2 inch works great.
Looks great. Im a big fan of these Galaxie wagons. I hope to get one this year. Are parts readily available? Are there parts catalogs available for wagons?
Most parts, just like any other old wagon, they get more scarce with age. No specific catalog that I know of. Best bet is to find one as bone stock as you can or if you have deep pockets, buy someone's resto.
Les Schwab did a pretty good job on the powder coating, just not the right color of yellow so I re-shot the exterior. I added Atlas wide whites to my tires, cheaper than buying new. Balance weights on the inside and ready for 15 inch caps.
It sure is nice when your 50 year old car has all the pieces and the stock diagram of how it all goes together. Cleaning it all up was pretty easy.
That's it, I'm spent, the ass end of this moose is done. One cut and rub, then the "wood" and chrome go on.
