Have posted some pics of my Falcon about a year ago but since then have been getting stuck in to the bodywork. Really wanted the car finished for a local show we always go to at the end of august, so you know how it goes.... kept putting it off (too cold/too wet/too busy doing other stuff..) Ended up a bit of a mad rush! I'll try and post the pics in order so you can see how it panned out... Herb
I love these and one day hope to get one for myself. Turn it into an everyday commuter. Very nice little ride there.
too bad shipping would kill ya ive got about a dozen clean ones nice work tho Herb....keep on keepin on
TOP JOB on the repairs Herd its good to see another old gigga survive is this erra of cash for clunkers
When i started the body repairs i didnt really want to pay to have the Falcon resprayed but also didnt want to have it in primer for any length of time. So after reading Stormin Normans extensive research decided to roller paint with Rustoleum. I really wanted a baby blue colour with a white roof so ordered 2.5 litres of Marlin blue and mixed that with 1 litre of white. Took the tailgate, wings and hood plus all the doors off the car and stripped all the paint off with a scotchbrite wheel in a grinder, treated the rust, a bit of filler then a coat of phosphate primer. I then DA'd that and started the Rustoleum. After a bit of experimentation and reading all the blogs etc found a mix that worked for me. (4 parts paint 1 part mineral/white spirit)
dang Herb...that looks alright! cant wait for btter pics of her and Ya...Stormins report pretty much covers it all....his looks mint
Sorry about the pics, took em with my phone so they are not great. I had spent a lot longer doing the wings, doors and tailgate than i thought they would take so that put everything else behind schedule. Consequently with the show looming all weekends and spare evenings were spent gettin her back together! I keep the car at mum and dads place which meant spending a lot of time there, which was really nice. My dad has Alzheimers, and he would come and sit with me while i fixed the car and chat away. He was desperate to help so i gave him all the chrome trim to polish, which he did although it took him about a week to do. With mum making the tea and sandwiches and my oldest son Kurt helping me it was a real family effort!
Very nice job, Herb! Except for the rotty stuff, appears you started with a pretty solid wagon. Has the 'deluxe' package, too. Did the wagon originally come from the UK when you purchased it, or did you import it from somewhere? I notice it's already RHD.
You're right Krash wagon pretty good, only door/tailgate bottoms and some bits on the floorpan needed replacing. Bought her in the UK, Wagon originally from Canada imported to UK in 1963.
I'd really been concentrating on the bodywork but with only a few weeks to go till the show had to get on putting the car back together. Working weekends and evenings got her back in one piece, a nos carb and fresh oil and filters and we were on the road! Finally got finished the day before the show, had an overheating problem which meant we needed to have a few 'rests' on the way but we made it! Lots of interest and nice comments at the show. Still needs the paint finishing, also the performance from the 144 and 3 speed pretty poor. Hope to fit a 170 with 4 speed after christmas so should be a nicer car to drive. Really pleased with how she turned out, lots of help from friends and especially family, couldn't have done it without them. Will post some better pics soon....
