Body work is finished. My friend was able to nicely blend the Camaro roof body lines into the Magnum roof. I cut down and made some of the original Magnum rear cargo pieces fit. This will also give me a location for the radio speakers. The tinted side glass has been ordered. A final pattern will be made after the car is painted. The rear hatch can still use the original Magnum glass. My Grandsons gave me a big "thumbs up" on my design. Today I pulled it out of the barn and drove it for the first time with the new top to the paint shop. I think I am really going to like the visibility the larger side windows provide. Last week I also got final approval for the custom license plates I ordered. My buddies at the barn are trying to talk me into a nicer set of Mag wheels. The Camaro was originally an LT1 base model which comes with 18" wheels. I will start by seeing what options I may have for custom wheels.
Looks great - can't wait to see it all finished up! I saw your '56 at Syracuse but you weren't around. Saw you driving by later but never got to connect. Despite some rain it was a fun weekend - always is!
Syracuse has always been a nice show. Been to all 18 of them. Had some Family commitments so I only made it Friday this year. Still a great time checking out the rides and hanging with my friends. Maybe if I get my butt in gear I can have my 66 2door Nomad Wagon conversion there within the next couple years.
Next to Daniella's - that's where I saw it. Beautiful car - '56 is one of my fav's and I love El Caminos - the car is really well done!
Paint work almost completed. Rear cover, hatch and rocker moldings still need to be done. I did decide to stay with the original Imperial Blue Metallic color. It should look great with the new wheels. I also ordered the chrome quarter panel trim pieces and may look into a chrome grille. Hopefully off to the glass shop later this week and then work on the growing list to finish things up.
Paint is complete and the Nomaro took a drive to the glass shop for rear glass install and custom cutting and install of the side glass.
I'm not sure what's more impressive, the car or the time it took to complete it!!! Either way....WOW!!!
