I figured you were talking the "F", and yeah we are on the "C" up here. That is a bumer, but even though the cost of your new furnace is $$$$, it's money well spent IMO rather than shoveling $ into a out dated furnace. You didn't mention but , are you water pipes in crawl space insulated? If not, it it a cheap thing you can do by your self...if your nimble/have good access. Your gas log fire place.... is it in a existing "real" fire place? If it is, have you thought about getting rid of it? A real fire place although 90% of the heat goes up the chimney the other 10% does keep ya warm. If our living room lay out aloud it I would gun the fire place and install a wood stove....100% radiant heat. Is your gas
It’s so cold [were trippin GFI's] like 0 out, struggling to keep the house warm. Well the mix of extreme cold out side and the heat inside, condensation has formed inside the socket/switch box that is against the outside wall. At first I was going to blame the same person who blew up the microwave spraying bleach inside its vents, but more of it would of been wet in the area. And its no leak, as the top of the box would of been wet too. Bone dry n dusty.
The gas log fireplace is in an existing real fireplace in the living room. I have another real fireplace as well in the family room. But I haven't used it in years and fear theres a birds nest or other critters up there. I thought about trying to use it in this emergency but, figured it could cause a chimney fire. When I first bought the house, before I had the current furnace installed, I had a wood stove insert and a Kerosene heater, as the previous electric furnace resulted in $400 electric bills. Both worked well to heat areas, but I wouldn't leave them on in an empty house. I didn't keep either one as I haven't needed the supplemental heating source since the furnace was installed. The gas log fireplace was intended as an alternate heat source if the power went out, but now that I'm ready to use it, I couldn't get the pilot light lit. When I go to work on Monday, I'm going to need to leave the space heaters going and the faucetts dripping.
OOPS! I must think I'm still in high school chemistry class. In my above post I think I mixed up Celsius with Centigrade. Now I'm REALLY confused.
